We in the U.S, have got it made!!
Got an "older/vintage" Pellet Stove, 80s (made in Canada) that still works like a champ. Needed parts. (fire pot) None to be had so, sent a note to the Makers in Ontario, Canada.
Had what I needed in stock so I ordered it. Got it, wouldn't quite fit and rather than "modify" it to make it fit my stove, I sent it back. USPS Priority Flat Rate box. Maybe $30.00?
Got a call from the Stove Company that he got a note about a box from ME at their Post Office and it would cost HIM $45.00 to pick it up??
Sure can't drive back there for that amount of $$$ so, deduct that from whatever and send me a refund. And we think our Postal system in screwed up??

I'm surprised California would let such an evil climate destroying item into our fine state.
The politicians and the lefty liberals are here arn't they?:mad:

And the $30.00 I spent on shipping was to get it across the border into Canada. (eah?)
From there, the extra $45.00 was to move it thru THEIR postal system.
Kinda like moving it from one side of San Francisco to the other. Just when we think we've got things figured out.... (duh)

Canada and Oz are strange places. Sister married a Canadian. They traveled all over the world. Sister shipped a silk blouse to a lady friend back in Canada from Oz.
Got stopped in customs in Canada, never to be seen again.

Been a few years back but I shipped a Tactical shotgun stock in "two pieces" to a guy in Oz. First package went thru no problem. Second package got held up at customs. The powers that be went after the guy, treated him like a terrorist and took his PC. No problem on my end, just trying to do the guy a favor. ;)

Canada? Once they changed their flag it’s been a constant decline. Just my thought.
This country? I can’t even pinpoint the start down.

That 45 dollars would be the tax on the declared value and a 10.99 CBSA inspection fee.
They would have really be screwed if you had sent it by UPS or FedEx

What did you declare the value of the item at ?

Tax on a return of a Canadian-manufactured item?
That's the part that seems strange.

All I can figure is it wasn't declared as a return just as a item being sent with a declared value . Tax and inspection fee are the only things that Canada post will charge for.
