Shipping to Canada

I know barrels and other parts have to go through an exporter when shipping to Canada. I thought bullets fell in the same catagory, but I'm just trying to confirm. Anyone?

Yes. Confirmed. Any 'significant Firearms part' such as triggers, barrels, stocks, scopes, magazines, as well as brass, bullets, etc. must all be licensed by the US Department of State for exportation.

The DoS is now slapping incredibly ridiculous fees on exporters,to the tune of THOUSANDS) in order to obtain the licenses to export. Many have quit bothering to get the licenses altogether. Some companies skirt the law, by calling barrels 'Machine Parts' or scopes are called 'Telescopes'. The problem is the recipents can find themselves on the end of some pretty scary stuff, like 'do not fly' lists and no-entry at the border for such activities.

Canada has no issue with these items being brought in, it is the US govt that has slapped such harsh restrictions on how and if anything firearms related can be exported. They've gone utterly out to lunch with their legislation.

50 caliber stuff is a banned export. Canadians cannot get their hands on any US made 50 cal barrels, brass, bullets or primers. The CSSF has also made its members aware that 30 cal, 223, 45 cal, and 9mm are all being considered for the same ban.

Most 'Tactical' rifles have likewise been banned from export. The Remington 700P in 338 Lapua is now a banned export!,We can still get all the individual components to build one, just can't bring in the whole guns...)

Whatever.....

If you are asking if you can ship bullets into Canada without some type of license or paperwork, the answer is yes. The restrictions are placed on the Canadians trying to ship into the US, by the US.

Al, Ian has this pretty well 'doped' - below, is a link to the U.S. DoF page - it may take less time to hire a lawyer, than to read it! ;) Of particular note, about mid-Oct., 08, I was advised be the U.S. State Dept. that unless/until I 'registered' as a manufacturer of arms and ammunition,a DoD requirement - for exportation), they,Dept. of State) would no longer issue permits,to licensed exporters)for the exportation of my products - projectiles, intended for sporting use! :, This pretty much covers everything from springs/screws, to you name it parts for firearms, ammo/components, sights, etc. Paying the registration fee is pretty much the equivalent of buying ones way onto an 'approved vendor' list. :, An individual shipping anything [fire-arms related] out of the USA, without meeting the exportation regulations could wind up in DEEP dodo . . . I have a question guys. I'm going to drive my RV to Alaska next year and want to take along a shotgun for protection. What are the rules on this? And where can I get info ?

I am waaaaay behind. It was recently that a noted Canadian gunsmith stated that Canada had no restrictions on bullets being shipped into his country. We might as well build a 50' high wall around the US to keep others out, and stop the flow of goods to our friends to the north. Never thought I would see our country living in fear.

Been there. Done that.

My advice? Don't even think about it. But if decide to go ahead anyway, check with every agency at every border crossing you expect to pass thru. Both directions. You will soon find that every 'official' has his/her own interpretation of the laws and regulations. It's little comfort when you're stopped at some remote crossing and the agent tells you he doesn't care what the official in Ottowa told you.

And, in many places in Canada, you'll find that 'protection' is not a valid reason for having a firearm. The police and the RCMP are there to protect you. Your best bet is to say that you intend to participate in shooting matches.

Be especially wary if you are passing through any Provincial or National Parks. But you're going to have a tough time finding a route that doesn't.

Good Luck. You'll need it. Maybe you'll encounter only the few good border agents. But it only takes one bad one.

Oh yeah, take the cheapest shotgun you can find. When someone confiscates it, you won't be hurt too much.

Yes, I live in a country where a cop killer can be let out of jail in 5-10 years, drug dealers never do jail time, maybe a month or two after 30-40 convictions), and yet have a hi-cap magazine for a Mini-14 and you're goin' down!

One does not have the right to use deadly force, unless it is used against you, not even if you found some street urchin in your house molesting your kids. I'm not kidding.

Firearms are never permitted for self protection. The good news if you get found crossing the Canadian border with a firearm, is they will likely take the gun, but forgive the 50 pounds of crack cocaine on the passenger seat.

Seriously though, the laws surrounding firearms exports from the US are beyond comprehension if you have never had to deal with them. If they had some basis of reason, I could live with it, but they don't.

Look out man, we're gonna declare back bacon and maple syrup as strategic technology in retaliation.
