I think you are down to only using UPS these days. Used to be both Fed-X and UPS.

This topic has been killed to death at all the shooting websights. I've drawn my conclusion long ago... DON'T ! You can draw your own conclusions;

Because ammo is legally (and PROPERLY) shipped by so many retailers with UPS or FedEx accounts, there is a common misconception that ANYBODY can ship ammo. But, did you go to a hazmat class to receive the proper training and certification to ship hazardous materials including ammo......as these accounts have done? There's good chances that by simply just applying the proper labels on the box it will sail through the system without a problem. (But heck, there's good chances that without the proper labels it will sail through!)

BUT......(and a big but) there is enough red tape involved in the process to concern me that the box can be xrayed and/or inspected, and an overzealous official can come after you. Do you want to risk paying a huge fine and possibly losing your gun rights forever over a lousy box of ammo? There are hazmat requirements behind shipping a stinking 6oz bottle of DurCoat paint....never mind ammunition!

WRONG!

Individuals can ship ammo via UPS.

AJ300MAG is absolutely correct. No hazmat certification training or hazardous material certification papers are required.

See UPS website for details. Very easy, anyone can do it and there is no extra charges.

Another "Why not?" My son is attending the Southwest Regional Championship Match's in Phoenix AZ, could not take the required supply of ammunition with him on the Southwest Airlines non-stop flight from Florida to Phoenix, properly packaged and shipped the ammo to a friend in Scottsdale AZ via FedEx ground.

Rifle and required equipment went with him on the flight.

He's done this on previous occassions and has never had a problem with the airlines or with anybody in authority. Loaded ammo is NOT hazardous material, and UPS is not the only carrier that will transport it.

As noted in the UPS shipping regulations, live ammo can only ship by ground. More and more items are prohibited on passenger aircraft in recent years. Most prohibited items have nothing to do with hazardous classifications.

just shipped a large amount by FedEx Ground last month, package well, label with ORM-D label, The only restriction was I could not drop it off at my local office, had to have them pick up my package from my home....No really a issue for me!!!

That's a pretty big rant to still be dead wrong at the end of it! Better do a little more research...

ORM-D labels have been replaced by the new diamond labels. You should read the shipping requirements for the common carrier you must use. The law changed effective January 1, 2014. This has been covered in daily bulletin articles. Go to the daily bulletin and do a search for UPS.
