Shilen Ratchet Barrels

I want to have a 30BR chambered ratchet barrel made for my Rem 700 - it has been blue printed and I have a few questions.
1. Are the barrel and threads on the receiver going to be the same as the Shilen or am I going to have to remove my current barrel and send those specs in to have them cut to match up?
2. Ratchet vs other types of rifling - pros and cons?
3. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks

1. Any barrel maker that does drop-in pre-fits will know the specs for a remmy 700 thread. That said, you'll end up going Remage anyway if you want to have them cut your barrel as a drop-in pre-fit with no gunsmith work required (you can install the barrel at home as a remage).
2. Meh. Reducing rifling to bore angles can't hurt. All the variations on Enfield rifling to me seem very gimmicky and low on evidence of benefit. Full on polygonal rifling on the other hand I have h admittedly small sample sizes) considerable barrel life gains especially when used in combination with HBN coated bullets.
3. Well, I would personally look elsewhere than Shilen. Brux/Bartlein/Hart/Krieger/Columbia River Arms are where I'd go. My shilen experience is hit and miss at best. All the others listed have been gems every time. YMMV.

On a blueprinted 700, I would want to provide the action to the smith fitting the barrel. Nothing is going to be standard on a blueprinted factory action. Receiver face, lug recesses, bolt lugs and bolt face should have been squared, which is a good thing, but means barrel will have to be fitted to the action to have proper headspace. If the tenon threads have been trued, same will go for the thread diameter on the barrel shank. No way I would let somebody sell me a shouldered Prefit for a blueprinted 700 action unless the smith that’s doing the barrel was the one that blueprinted the action and had recorded all the measurements.

If just doing the barrel nut Remage thing, you can headspace it easy enough, but you still have to have the tenon threads cut to match your blueprinted action.

you will do well to have a gunsmith do this for you. They can chamber and thread the barrel to fit your action.
