Shilen Octagon Barrel

Has any one used a Shilen Octagon Barrel and how did it shoot?

No, but I have heard that Shilen no longer hand laps the Octagon barrel. I would much prefer a Shilen Ratchet barrel.

I have one of each and my Octagon out shoots the ratchet by a wide margin. That is not to say that I don't have a great Octagon and a mediocre ratchet and no one can argue that the ratchet hasn't had better success in most forms of RFBR competition.

The octagon barrels are hand lapped as all of their SS barrels.

Then Shilen must have changed their mind. When I talked to them several months ago they told me they no longer lap the Octagon barrels.

The barrels are lapped. They no longer "taper" lap the barrels.

Well now that is indeed interesting. My two most accurate rifles have taper lapped barrels. One is an older Shilen the other is a Lilja. Of course an octagon barrel is not a new idea. Glocks have had them for decades.
