Shilen DGR extraction and ejection

I know they use a Savage type bolt head, what kind of extractor/ejector do they have, and how do they work? I am currently moving away from Savage because I dont have confidence in their ejection, they are good for bench and range shooting but not for tactical shooting in my experience. Not knocking Savage just dont like the ejection strength.

I wouldn't think twice about buying the shilen as the biggest factor is they rid themselves of the savage trigger nightmare. They use a sliding extractor and a plunger ejector similar to savage but refined so it works good from what I have read about it. The shilen is basically a bighorn action and I don't think you will have any problems especially now you can use any Remington trigger you desire.

I have a lot of time in shooting Savage actions, and I currently own one as well as the previously mentioned Bighorn, which has all of the features of the Shilen and one more, a built in recoil lug, that drops right in to Remington bedding. Neither my Savages, nor my Bighorn have ejection issues, which makes me curious about what yours have been. I believe that all of them have sliding plate extractors with spring plunger ejectors. The Shilen action body is made by Stiller, and I believe that the bolt is by Pacific Tool. The Bighorn is made by AJ Goddard, who owns and operates Bighorn Arms. Everyone involved with both actions are good people. Take your pick. I like my Bighorn a lot. AJ has been great to work with, but then so have the people at Shilen.

Boyd, they eject okay, but just okay, sometimes I have a case drop back into the magwell which makes the rifle not good for tac shooting, my Rems, winchesters which have the slide extractor also, all spit out the shell with more authority.

I think that your problem can be fixed. Perhaps a stronger spring, or a little longer ejector protrusion from the bolt face. Does it seem to be tied to how the bolt is operated?

I own two shilen actions. One is a single shit and i removed the ejector. The other is on a 243 i use for hunting and is a repeater with a hinged floor plate. I have had no issues with them extracting and ejecting. They seem to do just fine and eject empties with plenty of power.

Boyd is right, usually it is the need to replace the ejector spring. Sometimes the factory extractors are a little short. I have replaced parts in the Savage rifles that I have had issues with and they have functioned properly ever since. My Tac rifle is a model 10 LE that is chambered in 6mm Competition Match. I can run a 10 round mag loaded to full capacity has fast as I can without issue, All of them will run like this.

Savage changed the ejectors some time ago.

The new style with the follower on the left, the old on the right. The "tail" keeps the spring straight and prevents over compressing it like the spring on the right. So far the new style ejector and new spring has cured the ejection on all the actions I've "upgraded".

I don't have P/Ns offhand, but they're the same as before and available directly from Savage. Cost? My last order for three each ejectors, springs and extractors plus shipping was $33.

I have dne the switch and even has SSS do a new bolt head and TT the action, still not ejecting as strong as my rems. Would be good for hunting or bench but not for shoot and move comps.
