Shelly some info on your 30 BRX please

HI
Im thinking of making a 30 BR- but noticed the pics of the 6.5 BRX and you mentioned a 30 BRX- please some more info

Going to be used for all comp work from LV, VFS to field rifle and 3 pos and maybe met sill.

What dies can be made to work I have several sets of Redding 6mm BR S type and i was hoping to be able to mod one FLS die to make the 30 BR- Will that work with the BRX as well- if yes - hows it done??

Thanks

First, I'll say that the 30BRX is spooky accurate. I've shot mid .1XX five shot 100 yard groups and it's real good at 200 yards also.

I just use a standard Harrel's #B2, 30 BR die on it. The Harrel's doesn't size quiet to the bottom but so far that's not been a problem. If the brass gets tight I'll run it into my Redding 6.5X47 sizing die that'll size the web down a bit extra.

The Redding #91201 special small base full length die is a bit tight at the base for my tastes but it'd do the job of sizing and bumping the shoulder even though it won't make it down to the bottom. You could cut the top/shoulder part off of anothe Redding Small base die so as to allow you to push the 30BRX up into the die far enough to size the very bottom part of the web if the brass gets clicky. You'd need to bore out the neck sizing portion to about .326 or .327. I use a carbide .3265 bushing in My Harrel's die.

When I first started shooting the 30BR I opened the neck on a Redding full length bushing die,Redding 6MM BR REM B/FL PO marked on the die) and got clicks after about 10 fireings. The Harrel's die solved the clicky problem.

I've got to get that 30cal barrel back on real soon as I have a Registered match at Denton in two weeks and I'll shoot the 30BRX in that group match. Then, the last weekend of the month I'll shoot a long range match on Saturday at Coolidge, TX and then a 100 yard score in the morning and 100 yard group in the afternoon at Denton. I'll probably shoot the 6.5BRXX for both of those days. But if I can't get the needed short range precision from the 6.5 I'll switch back to the 30BRX barrel on Saturday night.

Ripper info
Can I ask for chambering info/dimensions on how you created the chamber so I can instruct my G-smith what to do??

Thanks

The way I did it.

Run a 6BR reamer in till it's .100" past the Go Guage. Then, Run a 30BR Robinette reamer in till the neck length is .300. That's a good neck length if you fireform with a case full of bulleye and a dental wax plug and the rifle is in a horizontal position. If you use a long seated bullet the neck may end up shorter.

But I doubt it'd make any difference if the neck is shorter on the case. I don't know for sure but I'd bet that the smith could just run a 30BR reamer in an extra .100" and you'd see no difference at the target. I have the case neck quiet a bit shorter than the chamber neck on my 6.5BRXX and can't see any adverse affects so far.
