I loaded up some rounds for my 6.5 Creedmoor today. I used all once fired Hornady brass and measure concentricity throughout the process. I tried two different bushings in my Whidden full length sizing die to see which one I would like better. Up until now I was using new brass. I kept two different batches of brass until after I resized them, but I couldn't keep them separated in the tumbler, so I combined everything at that point.
10 Fired cases = 0.0009" Avg runout
10 sized cases with 288 bushing = 0.0012" Avg runout
(Case necks sized with the 288 bushing actually measured 0.286".)
15 Fired cases = 0.0011" Avg runout
15 sized cases with 289 bushing = 0.00082" Avg runout
(Case necks sized with 289 bushing measured 0.289" and had less runout than before sizing)
I finished sizing another 25 cases with the 289 bushing and then ran a Sinclair mandrel expander through all cases to make everything even. Then I tumbled the cases using stainless steel media.
I loaded all the cases with 42.1 gr of H4350 and seated them with 140 AMAX bullets. Average runout for the loaded rounds was 0.0012" with only 2 rounds being over 0.002" TIR. I have been a big fan of Whidden dies for awhile, but these are the best results I have ever gotten with any dies. Needless to say, I will keep buying Whidden dies.
Now I need to find time to shoot.
