shape of stock

Newbie F class question, I have been shooting a borrowed Savage Model 12 F Class Open, with the squared off or level rear buttstock, and really like it. I want to purchase a Savage, and see two differences between the model 12 Benchrest model and the F Class Open, the Benchrest has a one inch shorter barrel, and it's stock has some drop to the toe , rather than being level. Can someone explain the reason for those differences (and there may be others I am not aware of), and offer an opinion as to whether a Benchrest model would do well for F class shooting? (I ask because the Benchrest model is available in the calibre i want, and the F Open is not).
Thanks, Ed

Short range benchrest requires the bottom of the buttstock not be parallel with the forearm, several degrees are required. The stock you are describing is for long range benchrest where it is not part of the rules. I would think if you are going to shoot of a bipod it wouldnt make any differance but if off a rest you may want the long range style. If you go to benchrest central there is an F class heading and they may be better to answer your question.
