Setting up and Zeroing Scope

Hey guys, I'm new to long range shooting past 300yds. I recently bought a customized .260AI built on a rem 700 action with Krieger Barrel with only 80 rds through it, and it came with a new Mark 4 scope. I took it to the range yesterday to get a 100yd zero with the disappointing leupold dovetail rings and mounts that were sold with the gun. The rear mount isn't a dovetail it's pinched between two set screws, but there are 20 MOA built into the bases. I believe my windage zero was something like 6 MOA to the left or righe (could be more that's just the value I read on the turret).

My question is: how could I go about getting a good set of rings and bases so that my zero settings indicate a better alignment between the scope and bore? It would be awesome if the turrets indicated a nicely aligned scope, where I don't need to "chase the bullet" as some say. I was considering a Mark 4 one or two piece picatinny base with aluminum Mark 4 rings, but I'm open for any suggestions and advice you may have. Is there any gunsmithing work that can be done to precisely align the scope with the bore, so that the zero settings are much closer to the mid-range of the scopes adjustment? Thanks very much for your time

A set of Burris Signature rings will help you out with the off set inserts that will allow you to put the scope back to center..
If the holes are off a lot you'll need a gunsmith to plug the holes and redrill them on center.. If they are off a little you could have the holes opened up to 8-40 and that would help realign the base....

I personally prefer either Badger Ordnance or Seekins Precision for rings and base. I would forget the two piece base and get a one piece Picatinny base from the either of the above. You get what you pay for so be prepared to shell out a couple of hundred for the best. Of the two Seekins is a bit less expensive but excellent quality.
Remington screw holes -could be off, if so a trip to a good gunsmith might be in order. They could be ok too it's a crap shoot when it comes to factory holes.
