Setting up a scope for extreme range

I have an 338 EDGE that I want to set up to be able to shoot to a mile or more if I want to try to. I have a VX6 7-42 that I want to mount on it and I discovered that it only has 55 moa of adjustment. According to my research, to get to 2000 yds with a 300 gr bullet, I'll need almost 80 moa of adjustment. So I am going to get a 30 or 40 moa base. Probably a Ken Farrell. Hypothetically, if the scope was centered when I sighted it in at 100 yds with a 0 moa base, then adding a 30 moa base moves the scope off center by 30 moa, correct or incorrect? If incorrect, please explain why. I'm trying to wrap my head around this. Secondly, does using a 40 moa base raise the rear of the scope a noticeable amount? Is it enough to change your cheek weld? I have several 20 moa bases but nothing more than that. I appreciate your input.
Thanks Bob

Dependent on the rail length, but there will only be approximately 15-thousandths difference in "rear height" from a 30-MOA rail to a 40-MOA rail.

For extended/extreme LR, having a scope with a lot of travel is a must - IMO
Also bare in mind the reticle, and its roll to additional MOA capability.

Good Luck

Bob I played this same game before with a NF Br. Use your 20 moa mount and get a set of Ivey adjustable rings and never look back. They have 150 moa in them and they are precise and repeatable. They are a little pricey but quality always is. Buy once cry once.

IF you have any question contact Ivey. He is very helpful. I will answer any questions I can for you also.

If you read to the bottom he still offers MOA models.

The moab is a good base with 150 moa of adjustment.

Rackengel/ERA makes a base with 70 moa of adjustment

Miracle Machine quit making the variable Gantry mount.

Thanks for the info.
Do you have first hand experience with the coldshot base? How much height does it add?
I can't find the Rackengel on the web? Do you have a website for them?

Length in inches of scope, rail, ring separation, whatever, x number of MOA x .000291…” = height difference, one end to the other, figgered for whatever.

Bob, I do not personally own either one. Only have friends that have them including the Gantry. Out of all of them my choice would be the moa coldshot. I'm not sure who is selling the Rackengel. Will be shooting with them again in about three weeks out to 2K yards.

Over the years I have used them ALL and nothing is as BULLET PROOF and dependable as Steven Ivey's is as far as you want to shoot.

Thanks for the info guys. What are your opinions on using a 250 grain bullet instead of a 300 gr?

I'm no expert, but I think at extreme LR, BC trumps the little added muzzle velocity the 250 would give you...

I even like the 300 grain for 1000. The difference starts to show up there. The retained energy shows on impacts. The 300 also shot way better in terms of accuracy. Matt
