setting my scope at 100 yards

Hi there when you are setting you scope at 100 yards Is it from the end of the barrel our
at the action of the barrel thank you

I don't think that the length of your barrel would have any significant effect. By my calculation, if you wanted to set your scope 1" high at 100 yards taken at the muzzle, then the difference if you took it at the breech of a 21" barrel would be .005556"

End of barrel! Measuring from the action is like having your toe over the starting line.😜

I just walk out 100yds from the bench and put up a target stand if needed or use the existing target stands at the range that are 100yd from the bench. Sit at said bench and start shooting.

Seriously, do not over think things like this. The less than 2' difference will not make any practical difference when dealing with 100 or 1000 yards. There will be many other issues to deal with as you go.

A true 100 yard zero is set from the center of the elevation turret, being that it's where all your adjustments are made.

Yes I have a 300ft tape I roll out for zeroing.

hi I am reading the BOOK about long range shooting by BRYAN LITZ
Bryan saided that you measur out to 100 yards so its from center of
elevation turret of my scope Is that right please

Yes that is right. The mechanics of your scope and all adjustments too zero are made from that point.

Well, I might have "assumed wrong",BUT since it's now stuck in my head, I'd like to know. I find it hard to believe that the whole "world of accurate shooting" would be based on an inaccurate measurement. I always thought it was 100 yards for the bullet flight, end of barrel to target. Those with longer barrels would be shooting under 100yds. Technically speaking, of course. It is also relevant, that I just finished my 5th cup of coffee. High test. Josh.

there you go but how would put out 300 yards of tape to set your scope Would the tape be laying on the ground our up from the ground at even 100 yards

You guys have way too much time on your hands. As a builder of a large range I can tell you that distances to target holders are typically measured from the firing line, and on most benched ranges that coincidences with the front edge of the benches. Differences in ballistic calculations that would result from a different definition would for practical purposes become entirely lost in the noise. While I enjoy the internet, and the discussions that take place there, sometimes I get the impression that fellows forget the difference in being on line and shooting. There are lots of real problems out there that typical shooters would benefit from solving. IMO this is not one of them.

Boy talk about complicating things. All you have to do is see the shot hit at any range, provided the rifle has been fold. NOW just click to the spot the bullet hit and its dead! :o That's the reason most guys spend so much time and ammo to sight there rifles in. ::)

Joe,,,how crude (wink) ,,,todays shooters want the website/link that gives all the ballistic data and then get things to the millionth of an inch then dont notice a wind flag that will move the bullet a foot or two !!!!....Roger

expiper ;D They think the numbers are always right, well when you get out to a 1000 they're are going to get an education! After 40 years I'm still bewildered by the one flyer. I don't even know how many min. it takes with my rifles to get on at a 1000 from 100, but I can boresight one to be damn close at either range that sometimes it's scary.
