selling 2 rifles and replacing with one custom- yes or no?

HI
I am considering selling 2 rifle and making up one custom rifle to do the job that the others did.

Have you guys ever done this and how did it go?

I am thinking of replacing a
6mm BR norma .272 no turn neck on a 1:10 twist
and a 6.5x55 min spec factory chamber with a 1:8 twsit
both using Tikka Whitetail actions,595 and 695)

With a L 6.5x47 built on a Predator,Tac30) or Lawton or Border actioned, 5R or 5C barrel 1:8, McM or HS or a manners,http://www.mannersstocks.com/Tactical.html), HS or BA Detachable magazines
Trigger maybe a J HVR or a rifle basix- do Canjar still make triggers?

I will be using it for varmint hunting from rats to rabbits all the way up to feral hogs, what the 6BR does now) and also for informal range work and some F class shoots, what the 6.5x55 does now)

Do you think I am going the right way or should I leave well enough alone??

Thanks
later

Do it and don't look back!

From time to time, I turn seldom-used and/or redundant rifles into cash, then spend the cash on something I'll use regularly. And don't get too worried about getted every possible penny out of the old guns - it takes too long and becomes irritating. When you give the next owner a fair bargain you'll sell the old guns fast and be able to start on your new project while the taste is still fresh in your mouth.

I don't miss a single "safe queen" that I've ever sold.

Tommie, you and I are not normal. We are gun addicts, but it keeps me out of the bars and strip clubs.

The persuit of building enjoyable guns that are your dreams are some of life's most simple and attainable pleasures that just keep on putting a smile on your face.

I think any time you can replace a factory rifle or 2 with a Custom you better off. But then again I'm a custom action snob.

Canjar is still in business but are very difficult to get ahold of. M.H. Canjar Co./Canjar Triggers 500 E. 45th Ave., Denver, CO 80216, Phone:,303) 295-2638. If you are looking for more of bench trigger I have one of their 40-3 triggers. Adjustable down to 3 ounces, with no safety or bolt release. Let me know if you are interested.

Your hitting the center.1 gun for 2 jobs, not a much better caliber.Go for it and you wont hate it.I sayed by-by to a very eligantly sporterized 8mm mauser and a beutiful 1903 30-06 and a 25-06 on the 1903 action now fills there roles wonderusly. Good luck.

yea! go for it you'll never regret it. I also have a couple of questions. 3 or 4 posts above it says pm sent. what is pm? Also I asked the question once before how to start a new thread. The reply said there was a button at the top or the bottom of the page that says new post. help! treeman

Sounds like you're really just wanting a custom action. If that's the deal, get one. Otherwise I'd say stick with what you have. A 6BR doesn't burn much powder and is the perfect varmint cartridge.....sage rats or rabbits just don't need a larger heavier 6.5mm bullet. If that 6.5x55 doesn't do what you want, change it. But two rifles are better than one just like two more specialized tools each do their job better than one all-purpose tool. Unless you have a whole bunch of other stuff, trading two rifles for one doesn't get you anywhere.

If you do want that multi-purpose rifle, you are thinking about a great caliber. I did what you are talking about doing when I got my Surgeon action so I can easily switch out barrels, and scopes if I decide so). It was a great decision for me, so I only need to really know one rifle rather than several that all feel and shoot different. It freed up room in the safe as well.
