Seen at the GUN SHOW

I found 2 rifles at the gun show in Jacksonville, FL. The first was a re-barreled Martini in 30-40 and the second a Ruger#1 in 30-06. I am overly fond of drop action / rolling block / single shot fire arms and might just have to purchase one or both of these rifles. The Martini had a 1.25" barrel about 25" long and target peep sights. The Ruger was stock with a decent hunting scope 3>9 power. I recently sold my Browning 1885 BPCR rifles as I can no longer shoot off-hand in Silhouette but have retained an 1873 Trapdoor, a modern Full stocked 45-70 Shiloh, a Win .22 low-wall, and a modern 1885 in 270. All of us have a reason/s for shooting, I tend to like the single shot rifles in different calibers and loading for them.

Right there with your love of single shots. Grab the Martini! The 32-40 is a great round and there is a slot in your collection where it would fit nicely! If I thought I would be competitive with a falling block at the 1000 yd. line I would be using one! Tough to install a hand stop on a two piece stock and not influence barrel harmonics though...

Only hitch with the 30-40 might be brass/ammo. Don't know if it can be made from another case or not. Hornaday might be making 30-40, I don't know.

I walked through a show last month. By the pricing, I'd say they don't realize we have a Pro Second Amendment government, for at least a couple of years. Everything was 'retail plus'.

I couldn't resist a #1 in 45/70 , a couple months ago. ;)
Hey josh , I just found a Ruger 1 in 30-06 MANNLICHER . I don't know if they are worth any more than a regular Ruger , but I sure like the looks of it . Also found a Navy arms Siam Mauser in 45/70 . I had the 45/70 since I was in my 20 s , just yesterday right , anyway I use to load 500 gr hornadys in it at some awesome speed . Oh to be young again , I don't think my shoulder , ribs , collar bone etc could even take mild loads .
I keep finding stuff , it's Christmas every time I go to the overflow room !
Stay well , Gary

Hi Gary! They are fun but they do kick like a mule when you load them heavy. A few years ago, I bought a Winchester 1886 "new manufacture" by Miroku. I was loading light, but put in a call to Winchester to ask if the new version would take the heavier loads described for Marlins in my Hornady book. They said it could, so I loaded hot behind 350s and went to the range. Steel butt plate on the gun. OUCH!!!, but I shot the 20 rounds. The next morning I stepped out of the shower and my wife says"What happened to your shoulder?"
I looked. Black and blue and purple. Last time I did that, but I went and got a thick recoil pad for it anyway.
I'm hoping someday I'll be in your area. I'd love to blow the dust off some of your collection and drool for a bit over coffee. Josh
