Seeking input on Borden actions

Hi, I am looking to put together a 284 win hunting/target rifle. Not overly concerned about weight. I have narrowed my search down to 2 actions. The Borden Timberline or the Rimrock LSR. Iooking for opinions and experiences on the two actions.

Thanks
Nick

I can't speak about those particular actions, but I have several other models. Jim is a wonderful gentleman to speak to, just call if you have a specific question. Customer service is excellent. I have Bighorn, BAT, and Borden actions. I would choose a Borden if I were to buy a new one. I don't think you could go wrong with either if they fit your application.

I Believe the LSR has the "Bumps" making it a tighter action.

Either would be great for your application, i`d get the BIG mag well option with the larger ejection port, just to open up more options in the future

Yes, that is the only difference that I can tell according to their website site. I was just a bit concerned if the LSR would be too tight for a hunting rifle.

Send a PM to Greg Taylor on here. I'm sure he'll be able to help you out.

I'll second the motion on connect with Taylor Accuracy. Great service, returns emails and phone calls promptly and does what he says he'll do. Can't ask for better.

I have both; 2 Timberlines and a Rimrock...wonderful actions. Give Jim a call and he will answer any question you can throw at him. Great guy to converse and deal with! Eric in DL

On another forum there is a fellow that bought a rifle with a Borden repeater action on it and wants to send it back to the seller because he isn't happy with how it operates. Binding is nearly always a problem with tight actions until you learn how to operate them on a rapid forward bolt stroke. If you're looking for a somewhat sloppy, digest anything that gets into it kind of action then you probably ought to look elsewhere. Bordens are built for accuracy and therefore they need to be a bit tight to maintain that accuracy. Be sure that a tight smooth action is what you're looking for in a magazine fed hunting/match rifle.

Keeping a close tolerance action (like the Borden, and others) properly lubricated is critical to keeping it running smoothly, and a little practice doesn't hurt. As clowdis said, if you want a rattle trap 700, look elsewhere.

I definitely don't want the rattle trap Comercial actions. I have a few customs BAT and Kelbly (all single shots) so I am aware of the tighter tolerances and this is the main draw to such an action. This gun will not see factory ammo. I am not looking to put just anything in the rifle. It will probably see the same 50 to 100 pieces of brass it's entire life.

I take very good care of my firearms. And just wanted a step up in quality.
