Seeing my heart beat move criss hairs .... question.....

First I want to thank every one here the last year or so for answering a lot of questions I have had on long range shooting. I posted question couple days ago on getting a rest and looking into brand and model. One good thing I only live about 1 1/2 hrs from Brownells store / catalog and can see a lot of items in person. Question I use a sightron 10-50x60 scopes on my creedmoor rifles. They Are very clear scopes. Anything over 20x my heartbeat is moving my cross hairs on my scope. I am just shooting off front bag and now. Are the Shooters using rear bags because they keep butt stock off shoulder so heart beat does not move cross hairs ? Marty

Rear bags help a lot. Get a good one the first time. TThen relax when you practice shoot. Take your time get breathing under control. The more you lay behind a rifle the more in tune you get with your body movements

Front rest and rear bag for me if I want to shoot the best I can. Then I only touch the trigger. Far from being a bench rest guy, just what I have to do because of my slight tremors.

Proper breathing is important to oxynate the blood prior to shooting. I take a couple long slow breaths then exhale half the last before final sight and firing.
I try not to drink more than one cup of coffee the day if a match.
A proper rear bag is important. I would recommend a Protektor. The style will depend on the type of shooting.
Your hold will also have a big effect on seeing your heart beat in the scope. I went from a firm hold and cheek weld has I was taught as a kid to a very soft cheek, without holding the grip, thumb along side of stock to balance only, free arm on rear bag only to adjust height.
Oh, and I have to remember to take my blood pressure meds in the morning.
Set up to dry fire on the living room floor. Practice dry firing with different positions and techniques.
Hope this helps.

How are you holding the stock butt off the ground? The rear bag's job is to do that, whether it's a squeeze/bean bag type or a regular sand bag. If you're muscling it up, you are going to have a very hard time shooting precisely. Shooting off a bag, you should be able to completely eliminate any heart beat motion.

Guys thanks for the good info on my question. I have been a hunter the 52 years. This bench shooting a whole different animal from 600 to 1000 yards. I can see I am man handling gun to much. I will be buying a adjustable front rest and rear bag. Thanks again. Marty

Its a creedmoor. Hardly any recoil. Ease up on the death grip ;)

- Use a rear bag.
- Make sure there are no swivel studs dragging on the bag.
- Set your scope with rings that allow your cheek to only brush the stock.
- Only just touch the buttpad to your shoulder.
- Lightly grip the front of the stock grip but do NOT wrap your thumb around the back of it.
- Then make sure you are not having to apply pressure to the stock to gain POA on target. If you are, you need to adjust the rest on the stock where it's on your desired POA without touching it.
- Breathe, squeeze... and most importantly *Follow through*.

I also have slight tremors that i have been trying to better deal with. It can really cause problems sometimes. The suggestion to limit any coffee or other stimulant type drinks is a real good one & breath control is a must. Some good practices to help with this......Real good thread.

Rick

Heart beat and shooting .
Years back at Camp Perry the Marines we shot around gave us this advice.
Do not change a thing in your life style before Shooting a Match .
Why they gave us a couple examples .
Give up Coffee or Smoking = Your body will work time trying to find out what is going wrong . This will have you heart rate up .

Now in my Golden Years I have had the Doctors that are helping me ! Order Drugs that have made Shooting at times more Difficult.

The Best of Luck

Nice thread but I think two different things are getting mixed without distinction.

If we control or even just touch the rifle we're likely to see some movement from muscle tremor.

To get actual pulse into it we need to get an artery involved.

I've seen very clear pulse with a sling but never in FC, just a little 'vibration' or tremor there.

A thought on breathe control, I’m a big guy (overweight) and shallow breathing is problematic. To help with breathe control I use a Breathe Right nose strip to help open up the nostrils when on the scope (mouth is closed). Might help.

Breathe Right strips didn't work well for me as I'm a delicate flower...... but I LIVE on these rubber nose thingies
