SEB NEO - need longer legs

Jay Christopherson

At 3.5", the legs that come with the rest are a bit short for F-Class. I'd like to find something more like 4.5" - 6" or so. The thread is 12mm-1.75 near as I can tell and they taper to a point which works nicely on cement.

Anyone have a suggestion as there where I might find something to work? I've thought about just getting long screws, but I think that would be tough to adjust easily. You really need that oversize knurled head for adjustment. The tapered point is a problem too.

I also thought about buying some proper sized stock and using a thread die (I don't have a lathe), but again, the knurled head is a problem...

I haven't. I am sure I could work something out with him, but given where he's situated, I thought I would try for something more local first for a quick fix.

I would search McMaster Carr website. They probably have metric all thread. They also have all types of knobs. Your can either grind a point on them or drill a hole in them and put armor piercing bullet cores in them.

I had exactly that problem, made worse by my use of "feet".

SEB supplied longer bolts, somewhere in the region of 6" long and the problem went away.

For such an up-market rest, I was amazed that the original "legs" were so short.

Shooting F-class means feet area must on soft terrain.

I have shot at about 6 different ranges and haven’t ran into an issue yet, if anything they are too long for me, I guess there is no such thing as a one size fits all, that’s probably why I make half the stuff I use lol

The legs were short on the very first run of the NEO. Made them longer (about 4.7") on the newer rests....thought they're "already enough" and give about 2 inches adjustment for uneven ground, w/ feet pad installed. (This in hope/hopefully to not have to supply optional item or legs, while "the look" is still okay for BR on bench top).
But seems that I'm still wrong.... I have never shot F-class...I even have NEVER shot real rounds off a NEO until today, honestly. ;D
So please teach me....
How many inches uneven ground "the worst" for the size of the base?

Thanks,
seb.

Seb,
You are doing well to help your guys, but it is so simple for them to make their own. McMaster Carr has 12X1.75 by 1 meter"39inches approx" all thread for $5.53 Part# 98861A100. You can get knobs Part# 60795K16 for $4.00 ea. They are black with a steel threaded insert. All you need then is a hacksaw. If it is going into the dirt it doesn't need hardened tips. I have a lot of armor piercing bullets that have carbide cores with a sharp point that I can help you with. I believe FClass limits you to 5" below your feet.
Let Seb build more rests and you guys make your legs.
Butch

Hey Butch, those are the same part #'s I came up with for the threaded rod, although I wanted something in a steel knurled knob (purely aesthetic), which McMaster does have at least one. I like the hardened tips for cement firing lines. I use modified Sinclair F-Class feet for dirt.

I don't mind making my own and I'm not asking anyone for any special favors- if there happen to be a set of feet already made for this rest that are available (which there are), then that works fine. If not, making your own is not too much of a problem, although I don't have much in the way of tooling to handle the hardened tip part.

Send me a PM with your address and I will send your 3 tips. Just takes a drill bit and if you get the hole too large epoxy them in.

Hi Butch, thanks you for your help!

I also make the leg from 1 meter threaded S/S rod (available locally), cut them in desired length, add custom knurled knob & HSS end tip (press fitted on custom jig w/ hydraulic jack) and then ground it.
I can't use armor piercing bullets w/ carbide core due to the availibility overhere in Indonesia, and importing bullets is not the way to go... That's why I use HSS tip.
Thanks so much for your kind offer. It is much appreciated! :)

Best Regards,
seb.

Guys, actually I do not mind at all to make extra long legs for F-class use as I've made it some before, along w/ the alum foot pads. --- I just try to make "one size suits all" legs, so you don't have to buy optional leg or spend more money anymore. *The neo rest is about 5.2" thick when stacked "in transport mode" and the legs are made in this size, to not "protude". (Longer than this, the legs must be removed from the base when sending the rest package).

Just tell me or the dealer what you need when ordering.

A great source for knobs and such is Carr Lane.

The only downside is the $25.00 minimum order before shipping. Otherwize, they have a great selection and excellent service.

Once you get your all thread cut and pointed, and BEFORE you go out and buy those fancy F-Class feet take a look at this:
