Seb Max anodized

After seeing a great friend anodized his rest, and moving it with a rifle on it… I had to try it !!!
I’m a little mechanically inclined… so off i went…

So first the disassemble- it was time to clean it anyways…
Seb’s machining is very tight, and understanding how the rest works, makes it easier to repair, & adjust..
That’s a lot parts to have laying around for a little bit, hope one can remember where& how they all fit together…
IMG_2653.jpegIMG_2654.jpegthere are 3 gen’ of Neo’s and Max-
1st is identifiable by the orange bubble level- it uses rd brass stock in the guides
2nd uses a sq brass for the cross slide, rd for the uprights
3rd is all sq stock for vertical & horizontal movements, w/ a teflon strip added to them..

Epoxy is used to hold the brass to the aluminum- must come off for anodize & cleaned up..
I took care in not to gouge anything, a little heat, it’ll pop right off..
The bearing on the shaft is locate on, but not bearing to housing it can be driven out, take care in how it was oriented in housing- one side has a long shaft side from bearing, the other a short side..

—- Off to the anodizer!!!!

After anodized , I epoxy the brass back on, and assembly it all back together- with the recommended superlube..

Seb has videos on YT to help for adjustment..
I had a problem with the vertical pinion shaft…..
after a quick call to him, he sent me a link back to one of his just watched.. I let the mallet tap just slip by me…( WHY would you hit the rest w/ a 2lb mallet???) …it’s important step in setting it all up..those Allen set screws on the carriage next to the brakes hold the pinion shaft in the vertical post teeth..
Those vertical post are just pressed in, they can get twisted, or one higher than the other. Videos on that also..
Don’t carry the rest by the Post !!! You can also bend them together, since there’s a long leverage -

Here’s mine all put back together…

IMG_3118.jpegIMG_3116.jpegHere is a friend’s rest he did.. which got my attention IMG_2314.jpegI have to say, it is smoother, slicker after anodized, the lube sticks to & stays in place on the rougher surfaces of aluminum, compared to the polished slick surface ( internal rub plates next to the teflon slides)

These are the only 2 Max I know of that are anodized-
I seen a Neo anodized, it’s just as smooth..

I’ve helped 3 other folks disassemble & lube their Neo’s & Max rest…
Don’t know if it’s that I got 3 (owned 5 at 1 time) , or what it is.. but they are pretty simple to clean/ adjust..

Now I haven’t seen the inside of a Neo X.. don’t know if it is anodized or not.. it sure helped on my rests..

Would I recommend you take apart yours.. sure for cleaning….only if you can put it back together…& adjust it out yourself…..

Gabe, looks great!
Who did the anodizing, and could you give us an idea of cost? Setup charges?

Looking at getting some small stuff done.

Thank you!

Frank

:p:D

To be fairly honest, I can’t tell ya who done the anodized- I called a guy, asked him a question on who to get to anodize- so he started getting his Neo rest apart- I boxed my stuff up, sent it to him… since he knew a anodizer…

Price, well I payed shipping-there & back for both boxes of parts!!!
