Hey. New reloader with a 9mm bullet seating question.
I was unable to follow my taper crimp [TC] die set instructions from RCBS. When setting up it appears that you set the bullet depth and then adjust for proper crimp. Do do this they say back off seater die 1 turn from case mouth. Then adjust seater plug [trial and error] for correct bullet depth.
Then back off seater plug and adjust seater die until crimp is correct. Lock down the seater die, raise the bullet into the die, screw down the seater plug until it touches the bullet, and lock down the seater plug.
Here's the deal. With the seater die backed off 1 full turn and the seater plug screwed down to the max, the bullet will not seat!
I had to do a 'dance' with the seater die and seater plug, screwing in the seater die to the case mouth [no back off] then adjusting the seater plug for bullet depth. Then doing the crimp adjustment and locking down the seater plug per instructions.
I'm quite nervous that the bullets I completed are flawed in some manner. The length is 1.145 which is in range for 115 grain FMJ and Herco, but being my first time the crimp is an unknown.
When I turn the finished bullet upside down, the bullet doesn't fall out! But I'm not sure this is the perfect test. I sort of hate to think what too much crimp will cause.
