Seating stem marking bullet ?

I would imagine different seating Stems have different profiles and interface with different bullets in different ways.

Pictured are two seated bullets Above and below a new unused bullet.

Are there different seating stems for different bullet shapes and profiles Or can you modify the seating stem to avoid this ?

I only need 1 m o a out of this gun... is this something I should just ignore ?

How do it shoot?

Doesn't look like much of a mark if it's the ring around just behind the tip.
Havent shot this bullet before.

I have shot other bullets with the same type of mark around the bullet tip... I haven't been able to get below 0.35 MoA with those bullets , and I don't know if the ring Mark is holding me back.

That bullet typically has a soft jacket. If there is any sharp edge where the stem contacts the bullet it will mark it as you show. You can spin a bullet with your drill with some J B or Iosso on it to buff that ring inside the stem down a bit.

Seating stem to bullet tip fit can be critical. Your case is a good example.

In a jacketed or even cast you might get away with just poor accuracy, in a solid like that it can get interesting. The skivving on the bullet is a calculated pre stressing to allow it to open on impact. The pre stressing is compromised on your bullet. A couple things can happen. It can open up on flight, open too early and cause low penetration, not open up at all because it’s been swagged shut.

Hunting with a bullet like that might mean lost game. Relying on that for self defense, you might lose the game completely.

It's weird. I ordered some solid and some hollow points and Ended up with tipped Bullets that are scored / segmented for expansion.

I will be making a phone call.

Just noticed last week that the stems on my Wilson arbor seater dies didn’t seem correct. Called Wilson and was told I needed VLD stems. Ordered 2. For Dasher and BRA. The end of the stem doesn’t touch the Hybrids or Vapor Trail bullets. They are hitting somewhere inside the stem and the bullets wobble around at the end. Is this the way they should fit?

I'd coat a bullet with Dykem Blue or a Sharpie and see where the seating stem is contacting the bullet.

Yes there are different seating stems, such as VLD stems
You could also, LAP the stem internally with a sacrificial bullet and lapping compound
Some stems make contact at a tangential point
Other stems have more surface area engagement which is what I persoanlly like
You could also put some epoxy inside the stem to engage more surface area then use the bullet as a mold

How much neck tension do you have? Neck diameter without bullet and neck diameter with the bullet.

Hafta check. Not using neck bushings to size brass as Im not not looking for sub half moa.

As its a different bullet, I checked bullet diameter... It's pretty consistent between the two manufacturers.

Just By feel I would say i've got a little bit more neck tension on this new bullet.

Without using a bushing die to control neck tension you probably will need to work on that edge inside the stem.

I would chuck one of these bullets in a drill, smear diamond grit on it, and hone the stem to fit.

But first I’d shoot it. These marks aren’t too severe and maybe this bullet and barrel won’t get along anyway.

Their ordering page is odd, easy to order a tipped bullet by mistake. Couldn't find anywhere the velocity range these bullets were designed for. The 150 tipped t-rex looks like a great hunting bullet.
