Seating die for 7mm SAUM -- need recommendations

Gentlemen,

I am having a rifle made in 7mm SAUM. I have begun rounding up components for reloading and discovered that Wilson does not make a seating die for that caliber. The Wilson neck-sizing die for the .300 SAUM works for the 7mm SAUM also, but they don’t make a specific seating die for the 7mm. I went ahead and ordered the neck-sizing die but now am wondering what I should use for precision bullet seating.

So my question is, what does your experience show to be the best seating die for 7mm SAUM?

Thank you,
Gene

Forster makes an excellent micrometer seater for the 7 SAUM. Sells for about $63 by itself.

Buy the F/L set with micrometer seater for about $90.

Your best seating die will be the one your gunsmith make's using the same reamer he used to do the chamber...

Agreed. You can get caliber-specific Wilson seater die blanks (i.e. 7mm) from Sinclair for your gunsmith to "chamber" for you.

I was wondering about Forester. I have 6 of their bench rest seating dies in other calibers and have been satisfied with them. But I have never put them to the test with a super-accurate rifle like I am now having made.

+1

I recently did this for my .284 Shehane and now enjoy consistent ~.001" TIR. The only suggestion I would make is to have a small, ~.030" hole EDM'ed through the seating stem so the cartridge will more easily exit the die. My cartridges now form a pneumatic seal and must be gently pried from the die. If the stem had a relief hole, they would just slide out.

No commercial seating die will beat a Wilson-type die made with the same chambering reamer.

Yep.

And get a Sinclare micro top for it. Blank dies are available through Wilson.
