Seating depth Question

Somewhere along the long road I've traveled I picked up a rule of thumb for seating depth, that 1 Cal. should be inside the case neck. ie; .3 for 308's , .22 for 224's ect.
When I load 155 NCC & SMK's to AR Mag length[ 2.8] only about .150" of the full bore of the bullet is in the case mouth.
Now, I would answer my own question by loading several to different length's and head to the range. The only hold up is that by 07:30 the Temp. with the "heat index" is 90* +, and I can't think of anything that is fun under those conditions

For ARs, just load close to max mag length (2.800" for a LR-308/AR10 or 2.600" for an AR15) and you will be fine. It is a rule of thumb, that many of us do not follow. Lots of F-Class guys who single feed and shoot slow fire courses of fire will load the bullet long to either get their bullet above the donut region or to get more powder in the case.

I have heard some people loading rounds with 0.050" bearing surface only. Those palma/highpower guys are always pushing the limit to shoot those 155s ::)
