Seating bullets Question?

Hey guys and gals,
I am wondering how many folks modify there
seating stem to get it to contact the bullet near the area that it contacts the lands.
It seems to me that it would reduce some of the variance due to
slight differences in bullet/nose ogive shape.

Maybe chuck up a bullet dipped in a little lapping compound and run it in to the seater stem?

Aloha, Les

buon giorno!

Modify? Never. The Wilson seating stems that I use, have done the job correctly from day one.

can you tell how far from the bullet tip the Wilson contacts it? always been curious which seater actually seats the lowest on the bullet.

Hey Les,
This was kicked around just a few weeks back, read all the pages on this one, some of the pro's jumped in with some really good info on the topic,

Yes that was a very good thread but I don't think the op (thefitter) ever got his question answered completely. If I remember correctly there was a post on there about opening up the stem to fit the bullet. I personally think if you wanted to have the perfect seating stem so each bullet was exactly the same distance from lands would be to cut a section from a barrel of the same dimentions as your own barrel and use it to build a stem to seat your bullets.
