What is the best product to seal a bell&carlson stock that the barrel channel has been opened up?
Recoil lug on a 700 type action(lawton 7500)tape just the front of lug or the front and the bottom?

I use black latex paint in barrel channels. A small 8 oz can will last a long time. Or you can mask off the stock and use flat black primer in an aerosol can. I tape the sides, front and bottom of lugs

I use black Centari acrylic enamel by DuPont. It was recommended in an article by the head of Iron Brigade Armory in a Precision Shooting article years ago. I air brush it or use a soft camel hair brush. It flows out beautifully either way with about 10% reducer. My recollection is that the article said they painted an entire wood stock with it and soaked it water for a number of days and it did not gain weight.
