Got back 2 nights ago. We left Memorial Day morning. Ended up loosing two days to rain, but shooting about 4 hours one night. Made up for it on the other 4 days. Rancher saved our bacon by lending us his spare 4 wheeler and a wagon to get into the town. I bought a clicker this year to keep count on dead dogs, and ended up with 860 at the end on Sunday night. Used 5 guns and had the most fun with my new 17 Mach IV. It rips the dogs and has very little recoil. Varmint Sarari II made me build it. I shot that, two 223 AI's, a 220 Swift AI and a 6 BR. The 220 and the 6 need brakes for next year. They work well, but are kinda no fun as to seeing your hits, the Swift is the worse of the 2. The MACHINE that wrecks dogs the worst is my partners 6.5X284 Shehane shooting a 95 Vmax at 3500. Out to 500 it totally dismemebers them and is very good in the wind. One day was a dog hunters dream, little if any wind, sunny and about 80 degrees. We were the first this year to shoot this town and the rancher is being selective due to 3 horses being shot on his property. The horses were shot from the road he thinks by deer hunters, but he is kinda pissed. He really liked the counter idea. My partener shoots a 6.5 X284 Shehane and a 222 Mag in a 40X. He is snowman1884 on GGVG. We tried to get him into the 1000 yard club, and he did come close, threw the dog into the air, but not dead. The 142's give that gun some recoil. Day we tried was not the calm day.,he needs more brass for that gun, but I think he said it costs $65@50 or something like that) Next year. Did get to shoot AT one coyote, coming up to the ranchers saw the dog in the field, turned around, grabbed the 17 and loaded 3 rounds into the mag. Parked where he couldn't see us and I walked up the burm to hopefully get a shot. We both got to the top about the same time. I had to run up the last 10 steps to see over and get a shot. Missed all three at the coyote with his belly 2 inches off the ground leaving a rooster of dust as he exited stage left. Maybe next time. Got to meet Roger from IL from the board and a few other new dog hunters as well as some old hands. Met a couple boys from NY that were down right crabby, straight answers and no dialog on their part, must be the big city attitude.
