Screw spacing

I'm trying to buy an HS Precision stock for my Savage #12 FTR 308. It is the 3 screw target action, single shot. I know Savage has really made this difficult with multiple screw spacing.
Talking with Stockys, the say the correct stock is #106, the screw spacing on the 106 is different than mine. I'm measuring 4.440".
Also, the #106 is listed for left port. Will a left port stock even work on a right port rifle?

Yes, they did. I could say more, but we're supposed to keep it PG here ;)

The old, original Savage Target Actions had the same 4.40" hole spacing that the repeaters of the time had. Why? Probably because it was cheap, and easy to slap something together.

Eventually, as they started bringing out the 'BR' sub-variants and then the Palma, they changed to the 3.44" hole spacing. Everyone and their dog had been griping about some aspects of the 4.40" actions: a) the rear action screw being too close to the trigger, so any decent sized rear pillar had to be notched halfways away for clearance, and b) the front action screw engaged the side of the receiver with only like 2 (maybe 2.5) threads. As an added bonus, if you have an overly long front action screw, it can tighten right down on the bolt head and lock up the gun pretty dang tight. DAMHIKT.

The 3.44" hole spacing moved the rear screw forward so you can get a full pillar around it, and the front action screw moved back so it threads into the much thicker lug abutment to get a more structurally sound setup.

There had been plans to move *all* the Target Actions to the 3.44" hole spacing, including the F-Class and F/TR. I don't know if that ever happened, as with the rise of PRS and Instagram Savage pretty much devoted all their time/energy in those directions, and ignored the F-Class guns that got them their accuracy rep.

AFAIK, nearly all the parts are in the same location whether it's left or right port. You might have to mill out a little clearance around the ejection port on whatever side, and the other side may look a little odd... or you might be able to fair it in to make it look totally natural. But mechanically they should be the same.

Thanks for the informative reply. The H S stock is the only 3 hole I can find. 4 month wait too.
Choate has some stocks, but they only use 2 holes.

You can easily make your three screw a five screw and then it will fit either a 3.41 or a 4.440 stock. I bought a RBLP 4.440 target action. Drilled and taped two holes to make it fit the three hole benchrest stock. It fits the pillars just fine and no problem with the front screw.

Many who compete with Your action only use the 2 screws anyway, leaving the middle one out.
I use the two front on mine and use the back one to tune with like the factory Savage team recommends. I have two BR 12 stocks and six barrels. They all like the front two the same but the back one goes from 0 to 30 depending on the barrel/cartridge. The stocks look the same but they are not identical.

I believe Action Screw Torque Tuning has validity.
