Scratches in stock finish question

I have a Remington 700 BDL (factory gloss finish) with some light scratches in the finish. The marks are not down to the wood but just on the surface. Is there anything that can be done to repair this or will the stock need to be refinished?

Some people have used hand rubbed oil to fill in the scratches. Once applied give it a few minutes then buff. You basically buff off the extra that is on top of the finish and leave only the scratch filled in. YMMV Good luck

A good 12" buffing wheel loaded with 555 grit on a 1 HP motor will have the scratches gone in a heartbeat.. Ask the Blue eyed bear how that works out 'O)

I have a smaller buffing wheel? What is 555 grit.Is it like the other type of compound that is in stick form. White , brown etc. Is this 555 compound readily available? Like in a hardware store (Lowe's or Home Depot?) Also what type of oil would be used mentioned? Thanks for all your help.

I buy my White 555 from Brownells, it is in stick form...
Never bothered with oil, it seems it would take to long to fill...
