Score shoots

I kind of have a interest in this shooting circle. Is there a difference in plain score shooting and VFS? What scopes are most popular? What barrel length? Gun weight? I think from reading the 30br is caliber of choice? Thanks for your time,greatly appreciated.

Registered IBS or NBRSA matches? 100,200 and 300 yds? 1000 Yd? 600 Yd?

For 100/200/300 yds.
In IBS there are 3 main classes :
1-VFS Varmint For Score= any CF cartridge no scope mag. limit
sub-class LV= light Varmint +10.5# max.
HV= heavy Varmint= 13.5 # max.
2-Hunter Class= 6 x max. scope CF cartridge of 30/30 case capacity or greater 10# max.
3-Varmint Hunter Class= same as Hunter Class but any CF regardless of case capacity.
36x Weaver, Leupolds Nightforce BR's, Sighttron 36X, leupold LCS'
BBL lengths = usually specific contours made especially for BR, i.e. Hunter Class bbl.'s, LV, &, HV bbl's around 22"
Originally the .308 was used, then wildcats based off of .308 (shortened), then 6 ppc dominated VFS for years then 30 BR in last 6-7 years. Hunter Class is still won by 30 x 44's, 30 x 46's, 30 aardvarks, etc.

Just checked your profile.....you are smack dab in the middle of the most prolific score shooting in the country. York is closest, I believe DocEd dominates Varmint Hunter Class at Thurmont, MD (when Mrs DocEd isn't shooting) and there are many more with-in 2 hr drive.
