Scoping 7mm bore

I ran the Teslong through the 7mm Mag barrel after cleaning with Bore Tech Eliminator, started at the chamber end, first picture shows the top of the neck area in the chamber, it looks like a carbon ring, not sure, 2nd picture is a little ahead of the start of the lands, 3rd picture is a tad further down the barrel. The rest of the pictures are in order as moving down the barrel until its close to the muzzle where it looks almost shiny clean. My question is why is it dark between the lands, would anyone enlighten me on what we are seeing here?

( top is the chamber and bottom is the start of the lands, carbon ring in between )

It's hard to tell from the pictures how much carbon is at the front edge of the chamber. Hopefully you have the rigid Teslong, as I had a devil of a time trying to keep sharp focus with even the slightest movement of the flexible one, which was returned. The picture can be brought into much better clarity by screwing the mirror in or out.

The 1st picture below clearly shows the hard carbon up against the forward edge of the chamber & growing to the rear. The 2nd shows the discoloration/shadow from where it used to be or maybe the start of a new ring after c.100 rds. The 3rd pic shows a case mouth at trim to length with the carbon still in place..

That's ugly carbon in the second pic and will probably take a lot of shifting. You might be forced to use CLR if it's as glazed as it appears.

Main lesson here is not let it build up in the first place.

You may need to find a cartridge type chamber plug, then you can overnight soak with the bore filled. Follow by bore guide, rod and brush. Try Free All for the first couple cycles. I have seen worse, just takes some effort to expose most of the bore. Warming the barrel(very warm to touch) can help before filling with solvent or foaming product.

Nasty mess you have in there. I would…

1) Clean the powder residue with Butch’s or the like.
2) Several long soaks with Wipe-out or Patch-out
3) Scrub with either JB, Iosso or ThorroClean with a patch over a worn brush.
4) Flush out, scope and repeat 2 & 3 until the carbon is gone. (May take a while)
5) Don’t wait so long to clean next time.

You’ll need lots and lots of patches. That carbon won’t do your accuracy any good either.

I was surprised to see how all that carbon formed in there, I just got my Teslong last week and tried it for the first time. I have always used the Bore Tech Eliminator until copper wasn't present anymore, thinking it was clean. If I had owned a bore scope, my barrels would not be like this.

Have you been brushing the bore with the Boretech or just patching? Turns out carbon usually needs brushing to get out, or eventually, JB paste or something similar. Anymore when i clean, I wet patch twice with Boretech and then I wet brush with Boretech, one stroke for every round, then dry patch and check it.

Abrasives are the only way to get hard carbon out. Its been proven that CLR does etch stainless. Dont worry about trying to get the carbon out of the fire cracking. Leave it there to fill the cracks and prevent the abrasives from getting too deep in the cracks. JB, Iosso/Thorroclean and KG-2 work well. Ive used more products than I can count and abrasives are the only option for hard carbon. For my normal cleaning I use Flitz borecleaner/liquid polish. It wont harm the bore and cleans great. If Flitz has trouble then I go to KG-2 which is amazing and much esier to remove from the bore than JB. YMMV

I was intrigued about a “wonder drug” that would clean out that tough pre-diamond carbon…
Then I saw this…

It may be ok with caution…cavaet emptor (let the buyer beware, in other words you take all the risk)
Thanks for posting this, it seems a little too much risk for my liking to put that in my barrels.

Wet patching, I have been using wet patches and push one way and out the end, and dry patch.
