Scopes too big for Hood scope checker

I picked up an original Hood scope checker to test my 3 scopes; a NF 12-42X56 BR, a March 5-50X56, and a NF 15-55X56 Comp. Also bought a dovetail to picatinny adapter since I only had 1 set of 30mm dovetail rings.

Plan was to test the BF BR and the March against each other. Assuming they showed no movement, then I was going to swap the March out for the NF Comp on the outboard rail. Here's a pic of the NF BR mounted on the Hood fixture which is mounted on my 30BR.

I rotated the BF BR in its rings to eliminate interference from its windage turret.

Unfortunately, because both the NF BR and the March have 56mm objectives, the Hood fixture is not wide enough to accommodate both scopes.

I guess I could remove the sun shield from one of the scopes and try to stagger the objectives. But even then I don't think I can get both scopes mounted. Have I missed something?

The rails on the Hood fixture are 2-1/2" apart. Might be something to check on the new fixtures being built.

Thanks for the idea. Need to check if 1 set will give me enough offset. The NF BR is a 30mm tube (which they offer) but the March is a 34mm tube.

Should of checked this first.

OD on NF BR objective is 69mm. 64mm for the March. That works out to 2.62" without even a mm of slop. Ain't going to work with rails only 2.5" apart.

I have no way of knowing about current specifications for the double screw offsets but I have a set of single screw 30mm offset rings and when I put a straight ring (same scope dia., mfg. and also single screw) face to face with an offset one, with their bases even, a bottom of dial caliper measurement of the offset near the cap split was about .41".

I am using the current scope checker that Mike Ezell made. I used a frozen Weaver 36X as the control and had plenty of room for a NF Competition using Harrell's offset rings. Pretty sure I can get two large scopes on the checker if I use more offset rings turned the other way.

The picatinny scope checker im making will handle two Nightforce scopes side by side with about .200" gap between the knobs.

I went 3-1/4" centers on my prototypes. Based on @Jay Christopherson testing, production models will likely be 3-5/16". Two Golden Eagles won't fit side by side at 3-1/4" I think there's a side focus knob/ windage turret interference.

Ahh, shux. I have a Hood Scope checker I must have bought 20 years ago, and I don't think I ever used it. I have a couple 56mm scopes I'm wanting to check, and had planned on buying the same dovetail-to-Picatinny adapter. I have a 44mm objective scope I trust...maybe that'll fit alongside one of the 56mm. I guess I'll have to measure!

Sounds like you need frozen scope that’s skinny ‘ like a weaver 36x
