Scopes Anonymous --Are you a scope - o - holic like me

No, but I am a ground hog - acholic. We each have are "aholics". :)

I was happy as a "pig in mud" when Leopold made and sold the VX 2 line of scopes. They were high quality, durable, affordable, practical, simple, and with a sensible range of powers. They met all my needs.

I still do not understand the logic of Leupold currently offering a VX 3, 1" tube, 4x14, with no adjustable objective.

Now, you need a degree in "scope-ology" to buy a scope that will work for your needs IF you can find it and IF you can afford it. Sorry for the vent, but this is one of my hot button issues in a world that has gone "nuts". I know, I'm a dinosaur and I've become extinct.

Wish I could be.usually settle for trijicon and meoptas mid grade stuff for hunting and general long range plinking.
Probably settle on sightron s111 or NF benchrest for the comp gun I'll eventually have put together.those are about as high as I'll ever go most likely

Hi, my name is birdog. I admit I have an acciction to high end scopes.
My March Genesis, NF BEAST, NF ATacR, March 8-80, multiple NF NXS's might be dead giveaways
or enough to confirm diagnosisl
You are well within the bounds of good taste and reasonable volume with respect to acquisitions. You'd need at least an IOR Valdada, a Schmidt & Bender, a Swarovski, a Kahles, a Trijicon and maybe a Tangent or a Zeiss or 2 on your list before you have a real problem. And lets not talk about some of these high end thermal scopes in the 5 to 10+ grand range. A person could easily dispose of all their disposable income with this hobby. And a word of caution, stay away from high end refractor telescopes. A 200 APO could cost ya upwards of 30 grand. Not that I would ever have to worry about having those kinds of addictions. My wife would have me living in the car before I got a short way through the list of wants.

My Jones centers around old Unertl 1 1/2” and 2” target scopes. I also am fond of the early Leopold 24 & 36x shiny black scopes.

the good news is I have no affinity for the new, high priced scopes ( March n Night Force). For the shooting I do, they are too heavy n offer no advantages for my shooting. Thank God!

I love and appreciate all of em BUT what's more fun is doing your your research and buying a big name brand scope that's exactly the same or relatively close to what someone paid double for cause of a brand name.only a few factories that make scopes in this big world.its fun finding the same quality for less IMO
So many scopes made at same factories and everyone is arguing which is better.lots of coins to get marginally better
Tracking correctly is tracking correctly all else is subjective

I’ve been a member of the scope addiction group for awhile, started when I was young and mowed yards, painted fence, did whatever I had to do to buy a VX3 that was down at the LGS when I was still in junior high. The next year I won Grand Champion with my 4H steer which sold at auction for 9.81 per pound and weighed just under 1250 pounds and allowed my to buy a Schmidt and Bender 6x. Ive always enjoyed good glass although my budget would not always allow it at times. Currently I have a good selection of top tier glass and few that just sit on top of the safe in their boxes waiting for a rifle which may be a sign of addiction in itself.

Over the years I’ve learned to buy used or wait for heavy discounts at close outs or super sales. Scopes are unique compared to other hobbies. A guy spends 3k on a set of good golf clubs and try’s to sell them 5 years later, what’s he gonna get? .20 cents on the dollar? That holds true with lots of gadgets and toys but a good scope will always bring a decent pay day at a later date if you’ve taken care of it. At least that’s one of the reasonings I use with Mrs Cutler when the subject comes up, she thinks it’s funny the BS I come up with but she’s good natured about it, doesn’t laugh too hard, just says I need therapy.

My gateway scope was a Leupold 36 that I reluctantly and grudgingly paid a couple of hundred dollars for back in the early 80s. I thought I was making progress then my street-wise pusher, Nightforce, introduces me to their 15-55 Competition Model that I eagerly and gleefully pay 10 times what I paid for that Leupold. With four of those now in my possession my friends and family are concerned, rolling their eyes, and talking intervention in not so hushed tones.

I tell myself that I can quit anytime, but more and more I find myself on March's website jonesing for a new High Master 8-80...
