SCOPE RING SETUP ON REMY

I am sending out a Remington and HS sporter stock to be rebarreled in 223 and bedded. The action will be trued up and i am debating on the setup i want to use to mount the scope. I want to go with a pic rail but i am not sure if i will have problems loading the rifle through the top since i will be using the factory setup. Any info would be of great help. Thanks....DAN

This photo doesn't show it as well as I would like, but it's what I've got for now...

When I first installed the Badger Ord rail on my 700 short action, I noticed that the rifle was a tad more difficult to load. About 15 minutes at the range accustomed me to the new scope base and it hasn't been a problem in the many years since.

I use Leupold Mark 4, two piece bases on my Remington 700's. They do not get in the way of loading. The are heavier in construction than most bases but lighter than most one piece bases. I have not had any trouble with them.

I find that any quality weaver type base works just fine. Put your money into larger screws for the bases. Your smith doing the action work will know exactly what I'm talking about.

Hi.
I see on a picture distance of shot from 100 to 200 meters. As maximally far and effectively you shoot from the barrel.

Kristian, am not sure I understand completely - but - there are targets at 100, 200 and 300 yards in that photo. I've shot accurately with this rifle many times at 600 yards and sometimes at 600 meters.

There is also a gong at our club, which is 820 yards, and the rifle shoots very well at that distance.

It has a 1:12 twist Krieger barrel in .308 Win, that is 24" long.

Regards, Guy

I have 3 different Remys set up with pic bases, either Badger Ordance, Night Force, Warne, or Ken Farrell are the good ones. Some of the Warne bases are pretty thick so you would have to compensate with your ring height.

Also I have a DNZ game reaper base on my Remy Swift, It is a one piece base, has a slight cutout to ease loading a bit, and are very well made here in the US. They are aluminum.

Kristian.
