Scope ring aligning

Saw a video on scope mounting from on the NSSF website. In that video, when the gunsmith had finished mount the front and rear scope mount, he used cylindrical tool that he called "scope ring aligning" tool. Seemed like a nice tool have, but for those who mount, remount, their scopes; how do you insure that the scope rings are aligned?

There are scope alignment tools out there with points on each end. One inserts them into the scope rings with the points 'pointing' at each other. If the points align, the rings/bases are aligned. When mounting rings onto mounts for the first time one can lap the rings with a ring lapping bar (essentially a 1" or 30mm bar with a handle) using some lapping compound to obtain a roughly 75% full contact with the scope body. Once lapped for a particular rifle I do not remove the scope from that set of rings unless they are attached to the bases on that rifle.
Another way to go - Manson makes a cylindrical cutter that cuts a the rings into alignment but one must be careful not to tighten the scope rings too snugly or they cut too deeply and then not be able to grab the scope body when tightened.

I use nothing but the Burris Signature Zee rings so it's not a concern for me. Self-aligning, no ring marks on scope tubes, and the ability to use the off-set inserts, never having to shim.
