Experience with ordering from Camera Land

The same Vortex that is $329 at Midway is $299 at Cameraland

I just got the Vortex Viper I ordered from Camera Land back on July 30th, for August delivery. It was a peculiar shopping experience. They charged my card immediately and I got an e-mail thanking me for the order. Then nothing. When I got my credit card bill, I e-mailed them asking for a status update. They replied that they should be arriving in the US any day. About a week into Sept I asked again and was told that they had arrived and would be shipping next week. It arrived today in perfect condition. No issues with the scope.

My experience with Camera Land has been different enough from other online merchants that I've dealt with that I thought I'd just post an update. The good news is that they have cheap prices and do eventually deliver. The bad news is that they may not have the item you are ordering but will charge you just the same to order it and their communications is terrible. You have to pester them to get status updates. If you need an assured delivery and can't just wait for eventual delivery, you may want to go elsewhere.

I've been playing with scopes in the 500.00 to 1,000.00 range since the first if the year. I had two vortex PSTs, one Sightron S TAC, they all did a great job, good glass, reliable tracking and good warranties, tough to beat Vortexs service.

The scope that surprised me though are the SWFA scopes. I bought one in fixed 10 and one in a 3-9. I still have both of those and sold the others. I just liked them better.

You can't go wrong with any of the three. I would add that if you go with Sightron or Vortex, I'd stay with the Sightron IIIs, big sky or S TAC. In vortex I would try and find a deal on a PST or HS LR. IMO.
