Scope Recommendations

I want to scope a new project that I am working on.
It will be for long range shooting 600 to 1000yds.
I am leaning towards a Nightforce 12x42-56 or 8x32-56 BR scope.
Would there be other Nightforce scope equal to or better suited for this application?
Other scopes I am considering would be Sightron or a Leopold 36x or 45x.
Is this too much power?
Thanks everyones been great help on this forum.

I have no personal experience with them, but the Sightron 10-50x60 may be a pretty good option. I'd like to check one out myself.

Try looking at the Bushnell Elite 6500 series 4.5x30x50 I have one on my 6x47L and a buddy of mine has one on his 6br and we've shot both out to 850 yards and we could spot our shots on our 8 inch gong with ease and are sure clear.

Howdy !

Nightforce scopes can carry exhorbitant cost.

IF it works for you/your eyes, one possible option is to use a Weaver K-36; and install a Gene Davis "optical booster ".

These run around $100, and fit Weaver " K "-series scopes.

I went this route', and I'm quite satisfied.

Nightforce 12x42x56mm is my recommendation. I have one and in my opinion for the money they're the best scope on the market.

I also have a Nightforce 12-42 NXS on my 6.5 Creedmoor rifle, and it is a great optic. The view is clear, bright, and sharp across the field. With the NPR1 reticle my 14YO son, on his first prairie dog hunt, got one at a laser measured 740 yards with a five mile cross wind. Through my 7 power binoculars it looked like a little white dot out there.

One can argue the relative merits of one caliber versus another, but it seems with optics you basically get what you pay for. The NF scopes are also built very solid (and heavy with the larger objective), but a single look through one at the range will convince you. Unlike a computer or digital camera that will be an out of date dinosaur in just a years, or a barrel that gets shot out in a few thousand rounds, the NF scopes should give you a lifetime of excellent service.

If you're considering the Nightforce benchrest model 12-42x versus the 8-32x, the 12-42x (have 2) is my first choice over the 32x (have 1). It's always nice to have the extra 10x available. Depending on mirage conditions there may be times when you will not be able to go above 30x or 35x, but for times when mirage is not a problem, the 42x availability is a big plus. You will also be better able to spot your shot holes, again, depending on mirage, with the 42x. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. p.s. I would not want to be locked into a 45x fixed power, or even a 36x for that matter.
