Scope recommendations for NRA AR Tactical build.

I've decided to give AR Tactical a try, Had White Oak put an upper together for me so now I need a scope. Seems like 15X is the top power. I have a 30MM mount so it's going to be that diameter. I'm not afraid to spend $$ to get a quality item I can trust. What do you recommend?

I use a Vortex PST Gen II 3-15x44 in 2nd focal plane. Works well. I'd say middle of the road quality wise. Some match directors will let you have a bigger scope mounted but kept turned down to 15x but I'd always check first.

For NRA Mid-Range Prone (out to 600 yards) the SWFA 12x should work pretty well. I've never used one of the SWFA 3-15's but I believe this would also be a great choice.

My son currently still uses a 10x on his TAC-AR and has shot it out to 1000 yards on the NRA-LR Target at Camp Perry last summer (CMP Long Range National Matches).

I'm watching.....currious what you will get:)

I have a March 1.5-15X42 on my match AR. The MTR-5 reticle is the same one as in the March-X 10-60X56 HM on my F-TR rig.

The 1.5-15x42 is SFP and has lots of adjustment range. It also has ED glass. It's small and light and is a 30mm tube.

I have a couple of the Sightron STAC 4-20x with the MOA 2 reticles with the dot. Works well for what you want to do. 80 moa of internal adjustment. Very repeatable solid clicks. Side parralax. Shop around. They can be found on sale.

Thank you gentlemen, I will give your suggestions careful consideration. I have been loyal to Leupold my whole shooting career, however they have been disappointing me lately. Might be time to give someone else a chance.

The March 1.5-15x42 is an innovative design, dar ahead of anything even close to it, which there isn't.

They did something magical to the objective lens group in this design. Imagine having a 1.5X scope with a 42mm objective; this is seriously advanced.

But we are concerned with the IQ at 15X, and it's superb. I am in awe of that design. I don't know what it is that gets my attention with this design, but I find it amazing. A veritable optical tour de force.

I just watched a review on it. No doubt this scope is incredible. If cost is not a concern I'd get this one all day long. And the fact that it's only 2 poptarts long is a bonus(see eurooptic review):)

Arken Optics, best bang for the buck. Life time warranty. I personally own 4. First focal plane and MIls, others will have unarguably better glass, but at a much higher price. Ask yourself, how many of the upper class scope manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty.

most actually. i only know one that does not.
the targets shot are moa so a mils system is not good.

The NRA MR target is generous, when shooting a typical AR Tac setup, 15X scope, Harris type bipod, and rear bag. Pretty easy to make master maybe even high master using about any moderately price second focal plane scope. My journey to HM included a WOA barrel and a 15X Athlon Midas. Not knowing your setup, make sure you have a good trigger and a steady rear stock. I recommend a 4.5lbs Geissele and a Magpul PRS rear stock. Haven't tried Magpuls newest version, I always preferred the flat (parallel to the barrel) bag rider.
Good luck and have funny.

Scopes…..on Across the Course rifles!! I’m proud I quit when I did! And on a POS rifle at that!!
This isn't across the course, its MR AR Tactical. Its a great way to get people out to a match without having to invest into all the gear associated with sling shooting and/or the ultra high dollar F-class rigs.

You're still welcome to shoot irons on any rifle you'd like.

I get that people want the sport to keep with traditions, but high power is dying. Allowing scopes has at least left the life support plugged in so it can have a few more years.

What exactly makes an AR a 'POS rifle?"

Its maybe good for shooting turtles off logs! Stock configuration makes it difficult to get behind the sights; why the damn thing is canted! Short ass sight radius and general usage is ok for a midget! Damn round won’t even shoot through a cinder blick! The powers that be that authorized it for a Service Rifle should be hung from the nearest piwer pole!!!

Dan put a Leupold 6.5x20x50mm scope on it or Sightron STAC 4x20 excellent sfp scopes. Sightron PLR and STAC scopes on sale with Lance. ISRA F Class allows higher power scope turned down to 15x. Lot of Sightron scopes on the line. We buy from LanceXXX on this forum.
