scope question

I'd like to buy a new scope in the 400 to 600 hundred dollar range. I'm thinking of the falcon menace 4-14, or bushnell elite tactical 4200 30mm, I was wondering if anyone has any input on these two scopes. I'm mounting it on a dpms .308 LR. It'll be used in tactical matches shot at 300 yds @ MOA targets. I'm wondering about repeatability. I have a NF NXS and it's on the money and clear. Now I understand the NXS is more cash but which of these scope has the better glass and holds a zero? If anyone has other suggestions in the 4 to 6 hundred range I'm all ears. Thanks

Jeff, your nightforce is in a different league than the other scopes mentioned. You might want to take a look at the weaver Grand Slam 6 X 20. It's a great value for the money, approx. $375.00). It has a very tiny dot, the smallest I have seen offered on a factory scope. The adjustment system in the scope is the Micro Trac system, that has been around for years and is still one of the most rock solid and repeatable on the market. I shot one in a T-6 for a lot of years when I was score shooting and won a lot of hardware with it. I still have it and after thousands of rounds from a .308, 30X44, 6X44 and a PPC, it's as stable as ever. Shot my partners 6X20 Grand Slam in S.D. for P.D's. and I could hold on a dog at 1000 yds. and not cover him. I feel there isn't a better system until you get into the high end tactical or Target scopes which run in the thousands. Just a thought, let us know what you decide.

I agree with Chuck for the 400.00 price range you'll be hard pressed to find a better value then the 6-20x40 Grand Slam and the dot is even smaller then Leupold's target dot. I owned two and they served me well for several years in the dog towns, sold both to my brother-in-law, they're over twelve years old now and still functioning without a glitch.

Jeff, I have a Burris XTR 3-12x50 w/mildot reticle. Lovely shade of olive green anodizing. Excellent glass and adjustments. Original box, everything like new. Scope was mounted on a rifle I've since sold. It's flawless.

I'd sell it for $589.00 shipped in the continental USA. A couple hundred bucks less than it would cost from here: http://swfa.com/Burris-3-12x50-Xtreme-Tactical-XTR-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P10979.aspx

I have WAYYYYYYYYY more stuff than I can use. :)

Here's another choice, Jeff. I have a Bushnell 4200 Elite 6-24 X 50 Tactical with mil-dot. It is six months old and in excellent condition. $475 delivered. Box, papers etc.

If it were me and I was going to shoot tactical matches, I would, and did!) get a Super Sniper in 10x with side focus. It comes with mildots, very nice easily readable turrets, etched reticle, a 30mm tube, and is rock solid dependable and it repeats. And the price is nice - http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-Scopes-C1719.aspx - half of what most scopes listed cost.

Not the 'name brand' mentioned by others but a damn good scope for the money! I have two, a 10x and a 16x. I think the 10x is the way to go in this scope as it is the only one in this line with a side focus. For the tactical matches the side focus is much better that a front focus scope. If you should opt for the rear focus Super Sniper, the focus is on the rear rather thant the front - a nice touch.
