Scope Not at True Zero

If a scope/rifle is off .5' to the right or left at 100 yards, how much will it be off at 200,300, 400 and 500. Some have told me that at it will be .5 @100, 1'@200, 1.5@300, 2'@400 and 2.5'@500.

To me it seems like the numbers will double at each distance from the last. .5'@100, 1'@200,2'@300,4'@400, 8'@500.

Which is it?

Hi SSM,

Your first statement was correct.
If you double the distance, you double the error.
200 to 300 is 1 1/2 times the distance, so the error would be 1.5 inches.

I would test it at 100yds by using a plumb bob at the target and squaring the cross hair up with that and then run my scope up ( click up) the distance it would take to be zero'd at 500 yards. which should be around 10 MOA or so. (Each one of those numbers on your turrent is a MOA)

line it up. shoot a group then turn the knob to # 10 and shoot a group.

I do this with my iron sight all the time to make sure I get a good no wind zero for my 1000 yard guns with matalic sights on them. Works very very well.

Good luck

this is good to do to make sure there is no cant in your scope too. You would be suprised how many scopes are not square.
