Scope Mounting Tools?

I've read a lot about this including posts on this site, but I was just wondering if anyone had a really simple method. I was considering buying the Leupold Zero Point but I have no expereince with that. Some posts I've read have not highly recommended the Weaver levels to level the crosshairs, and although they seem a little imprecise I don't know of a better approach. I know this is a little broad, but I have to change a few scopes including one on my AR, and I am tired of paying $10 apiece to my gusmith and having to drive there.

If you'll hang a string with a heavy weight on it out a ways and make sure the rifle is level and turn the scope till it lines up the crosshairs and the string and then your set.....

There are numerous ways to level a scope, and which method you choose is entirely up to you as none are incorrect as long as you get it done.
The important factor is to mount the scope stress free in the rings. To do this, if you arenot using Burris inserted rings, is to have a steel bar the size of your rings to ck for straightness. You can even use compound and lap the rings if you feel the need. Most importantly the bar should slide freely in the rings.
Next coat the inside of both ring halves with a good quality rubber cement. Dont be stingy. It will squeeze the excess out and look like an absolute mess. Dont be alarmed, let it completely dry, and then simply peel off what you can see. It cleans up easily. Now your rings have a good grip on the scope, and you wont mark the tube. It works for me. As you could probably tell, I am a but of a novice, so I will be using the Burris rings to eliminate one more complexity to the issue.

no matter what method you use to level it,there is only one test that i know of that checks if it works.

hang a 3-4' piece of freezer paper at 100yds,make @1/2"bull and run a level line up to the top. shoot a 3 shot group in the bull (at the bottom of the paper of course) using the ammo that you use all the time. run the dials up in what ever incrament you like and it should follow the line to the top.
you can level the gun all you want but if your scope don"t track up the line????.....

Good tip Rem06. I'll make sure to verify this. My scope has the varmint reticle, and it only makes sense that it will work remotely well if the crosshairs are level.
