Scope MOA question

My scope manual says it has 80 MOA of verticle and horizontal adjustment. Does that mean 40 up and 40 down ?? My ballistic calculator says i need 31.92 MOA of up to get to 1000 yards so i'm thinking that my scope will do that with flat bases. Thoughts ?? Thank you.

Matt is correct. You would have 40 up if your 100yrd zero is at mechanical center. That is rarely the case. A 20moa base will almost guarantee you to have enough adjustment left

Yup theoretically 40 up and 40 down but with a 20 MOA base that would be 60 up and 20 down allowing you to dial farther. No downside with a 20 MOA base with a scope with enough elevation.

@klamathsteel
The 80 MOA of Vertical adjustment is referring to the Elevation Turret
The 80 MOA of Horizontal adjustment is referring to the Windage Turret
The amount of "up and down" is subjective to individual rifles, and the Zero distance used.
As has been suggested to you by the others above, a 20-MOA base would assure you the ability of adjustment to 1000yds and also more optically centered at distance.
