Scope MOA question?

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
6 Dasher, 3000 fps muzzle velocity, 105gr. bullet.

NF Comp. 15-55 scope

Will a 30 MOA base still allow me to shoot at 100, or is it too much???

Phil.

Depends. You have 55 MOA elevation movement on your scope so you notionally have 27½ MOA from scope centre to full adjustment. You'll bottom out before you zero on 100 yards unless you have a good deal of barrel sag or other dynamics acting on your rifle. It would be desirable if you could test your rig with a standard scope mount first.

My Flexibed bedded F Class Millennium actions soak up 10 MOA elevation in their setup, so I do run a 30 MOA rail on them. I started with a 20 before I found this out and changed to compenate.

May be just a little too much, but...they advertise 55 minutes of elevation adjustment. It will be close. If you don't mind a inch or two high at 100 yds. it should work out fine, if the mount is true 30 min.s everything else being straight and true.

I guess i`ll just play with it.....

It`s a Bat, HV, PR&T stock, so i`m pretty sure i`m good there, i was just trying to have a little bit extra just in case those pesky varmints were out a little further than 1000 yards.

I have a zero MOA base on it now, i`ll get my full data at 100 and then i`ll know what i have left in the scope and where i`ll be depending on which base i decide to go with.

Thanks guy`s.

Phil.

I can shoot 100-1250 with a 20MOA base and a 100 yard zero with my dasher spitting 105-107 class bullets.

Personally I'd get a 20moa and use signature zee rings. You can shim if you need more on the 20 MOA base and your scope won't get marred up. Double win.

This has much to do about how you barrel is timed to your action, and how much bow is in your barrel. I always time it so the bow points up when shoulder locks up. I have had 1 click left at 100yds with a 20 moa rail, and plently to spare at 1000.

I had 25 MOA base/ring combo on my 6.5x47 and a scope with 50 MOA internal and it would not zero at 100yds. It was close, about an 1-1/2" high.
