Scope for (XTC) Across the Course

Here we go. I have purchased 3 scopes for XTC (Service Rifle). The reticle on all three block out the 10/9 rings on the targets. What scope has thin enough sighting picture to allow you to see the targets center?

Thanks
Tom

Is your application service rifle or match rifle?

I shoot match rifle XTC and use either Leupold duplex or target dot with the 6.5 X 20 and the 8.5 X 25 and can discern the center of the reticle on the X ring.

Service Rifle. Corrected my post

I prefer the nightforce sr2, don't worry about the center, use the circle to center it over the black like a match rifle sight.
I shot a lot of good scores though with the old vortex pst reticle. again, just center the dot in the black. If you start trying to put it in the middle of the 9 or ten ring when theres a spotter you start making wide shots from off center 9's and 10's
always center on the black and ignore the spotter.

FYI. Hi Lux makes a Service Rifle scope with cross hairs inside of a horseshoe with 10MOA ID.
I think with 10MOA ID, the shot should be a 9 or better as long as the aiming black is within the horseshoe. The cross hairs allow for more precise aiming for prone slow.

The only Vortex I tried had a floating dot. Lots of people like it, I tended to lose the dot. It has 1/2 MOA clicks that some find a little coarse, but I’m not sure they still make it.

The Hi Lux XTC seems to get good reviews, durability is a question for any maker new to the game, and they are.

There are a couple of options from Leupold, either from the custom shop or their XTC specific scope.

Nightforce and March make scopes specifically for XTC

Went from Vortex PST to Athlon Helos BTR and didn’t regret it one bit. Better glass, 1/4 clicks and .5 more magnification.
Both are on the mid range price for SR scopes, they can and will have issues. Knock on wood, I’ve had none so far with my Athlon, but have heard of others. I sent both Vortex back for tracking going south.
If money was no object I’d get the new March. That reticle imho is the best.

I got Leupold's service rifle scope with their FireDot reticle earlier this year, and it is the best scope I've shot on my service rifle. I think well worth the money.

For Service Rifle class in XTC, which is the vast majority of shooters, the max mag is 4.5 and the max objective is 34mm.

I am currently using the Konus XTC on my service rifle. Creedmoor sports handles them. I like it been using if for 2 years. it has a dot in the middle that is spaced out a little bit. Repeatable tracking and good clarity. It seems to be lasting been using it for a little over 2 years. They have an example of the reticle. The center dot is pretty much size of the x-ring all the way across. Focus is fixed at 200yds. Shot a 100-8 300yd rapid a couple weeks ago and on sunday shot my best leg match score of 475-9x which won and got 8pts.

I have only tried the Nightforce SR reticle on my CMP legal service rifle but it works great with a cross hairs reticle. I don’t think I would like a dot in the center.

When I moved to optics I started shooting the Vortex Viper PST. I found the dot worked great for offhand: as long as I kept the dot in the black I was guaranteed a 9. However, I experienced issues with a lack of consistency in the prone position. I've now moved to the Nightforce service rifle optic with SR1 reticle.

I'm using a Leupold with the fire dot. The crosshairs are a little thick but I have found that even at 600, I really like the dot. It gives me something to focus on and the crosshairs does not get lost in the black.
