scope for long range varmiter

getting a 6.5 x 68 for long range coyotes and wanted to know if there is a scope that would be better than a unertl for this any suggestions would be appreciated

Not familiar with the Unertl's of late. Are you saying it has a 68mm objective end?? No typo? Won't go into that specific pitfall till you verify......

No that is his cartridge 6.5x68mm and he wants to know if Unertl makes a scope that work well with it....

I don't know. What ranges are you looking to shoot at?

Nightforce is great... S&B are awesome... But what are you looking for?

The old Unertl external adjustment scopes were once the state-of-the-art for varminting and target competition during the "golden days" but have long since been surpassed in performance and optics by the products of many manufacturers. Don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot in my heart for the old Unertls, but unless you already own one and plan to use it in the varmint fields there are lots of better choices around.

If you were contemplating the purchase of a new Unertl scope I'm afraid you're out of luck, as the only scope they seem to be manufacturing these days is a civilian version of their famed 10x USMC SNIPER scope, which is hardly suited for serious varminting, and at $2500 is highly overpriced for most folks.

THESE GUYS ARE RIGHT ABOUT THIER SCOPE INFO THEY ARE GIVING YOU. I HAVE A EXTRA 8X32X50 PENTAX LIGHT SEEKER THAT I WOULD SELL FOR $500 IF YOU WANT IT. IT IS MANUFACTURED BY BURRIS FOR PENTAX. I WOULD MAKE A GREAT VARMIT SCOPE. THANKS AND GOOD SHOOTING, ERIC. echester@ditchwitchfl.com

I have a 4.5-14X VX-III on a long-range coyote rig, and just love it. I'm a ballistic reticle type, and the Varmint Hunter reticle is just great for this application, IMO

I have the same problem too. Ideally a Leupold 6.5x20 or 8.5x32 Long Range target would do about anything, but starting prices are $800.00. It looks like most everything in that category is priced the same, like Burris for example. Tactical scopes can run more.

Ebay always has a bunch of Unertl's for sale. The Vulture is receiver mounted but 10X is maximum magnification.
