I have given some thought to picking up some camera lens filters but have not tried it yet.
I believe that some of the Hoya filters might work, if their thread pitch matches. Just may take my sunshade to the camera shop and see .....
Or perhaps some telescope filters.

I have used the yellow filter in the past. In certain conditions it enhances the image.

I have used camera filters in 2 scopes. A Mueller and a now a vortex viper pst. I have used a yellow and circular polarized filter. Brands I used are tiffin, Hoya and nikon

Yellow is fine for something you see in black and white. It increases contrast. In color, it serves no purpose.
Try putting on some yellow saftey glasses. It helps to seemingly btighten a poorly lit shop and almost painfull to ware out in full sunshine. The yellow filter is used in photography for blk and white pics. I've seen specific yellow shooting glasses also. They won't make a Tasco a Nightforce but they do help.

I put a Decot light gold lens in my shooting glasses and it helps with the contrast with the scope for some conditions. It will also let me use a higher power on the scope for some conditions. It is not a big improvement but enough to make it worth doing. I would caution against the bright skeet orange since that seems to be too much. We all seem to see color a little differently so you may find a color other than the light gold is better for you. Either way I would recommend a light shade over a dark shade.

Tried a polarizing filter once. When rotating the filter the retical moved around the aiming mark... Scrapped that idea immediately, although the sight picture was much improved on a very hot, bright day.

How do you mean it improved the sight picture on a hot, bright day? Did it reduce the effect of mirage?

It did provide a sharper sight picture. The day I tried it was very hot and humid with a lot of mirage and a hazy view of the targets. It cannot remove the effect of mirage though, that isn't possible.
If it wasn't for the wandering zero shift when adjusting the polarizing filter I would have explored the idea further. I didn't fire a shot using the polarizing filter as it would have been disastrous.

Some have used a black foam ring in the objective to reduce the effective objective size to good effect. I have yet to try this.
