Scope choice?

Gentlemen

I have been using a 6-18 Nikon Buckmaster on my sakoHB in 6mm ppc. I'm thinking an upgrade may be in order. Don't think I want to go all the way to a Nightforce. Now I'm just shooting for fun, no competition. Any recommendations.
Thanks Greg

Greg: If you're limiting your distances to 200 yard max. with the 6ppc, then one of my favorites is the Weaver T-24x with 1/8 moa clicks. Excellent repeatability, very good glass, positive clicks, screw-on caps, sunshade, extra set of turrets. I'me so impressed with them, I have 3.

I did try the Weaver T-36x but could not use it. Eye relief was very critical for me and very poor light gathering. A bright July afternoon looked like dusk, just before the sun goes down. I know others use the T-36x with great success, but for me, it was not a good choice.

If you can go into the higher price range, then the newer Leupold Competition Series 35x, 40x, ( have 2), and the 45x, 30mm are excellent scopes.

Compared to my older Leupold 36x's, they are brighter, clearer, and eye relief is not as critical.

If you are going to longer distances and/or mirage would be a problem, then a variable would be a better choice than a fixed high magnification, and for that the before mentioned Sightron 10-50x 60mm or the Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x ( have 4 ) would be another choice, if you can live with the heavy weights and larger sizes.

So there are three choices for you, based on needs and cost.

Whatever you get, get the best you can afford. Nowhere is the old saying "you get what you pay for" more evident than in optics.

I've got a nightforce 12-42 br and wouldn't trade it for anything. I never thought I would spend that much on a single scope but after owning one I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another (after saving up a long while!). I wouldn't mind trying a sightron either after reading all the reviews they get on this site.

I have four Bushnell 3200 Elite Scopes and like them very much. They are as clear as any of my Leupold scopes and hold zero just fine although I haven't used them on anything with more recoil than a 308.

If you wait for sale you can get a real good deal on them at Cabelas. I recently purchased a 4x12 for 199.00.

A couple others to consider are Leupold 24X BR scope and the 6.5-20X40 EFR model. Either will give you great service. Look for a good used one.

as fdshuster mentioned distance an mirage... has anyone used the black diamond by burris .. ihaven't looked thru one so i wonder how well they do if anyone uses them for comp.. ?

Greg if your not into competition than I would not recommend a fixed power. your 6-18 Nikon Buckmaster is a nice scope. In order for you to upgraid maybe i would go with a Leupold 6.5x20 with a 30mm tube, thats what i have and realy like it. Gabe
