Scope Bumping by Gene Davis

I just received my rear bumping lens From Gene Davis of Walnut Creek Arms,740) 503-4486. He could not be a nicer guy. He sent me a 3X lens to bump my Sightron 24X to 32X. He said the same lens on a Sightron 36X would bump it to 45X and it would bump a 45X to 60X. I will have to adjust the focus on the cross hairs but every thing else seemed pretty good. Not bad for $90.00. He said he will have them for Leupolds and other scopes in about two weeks.

Forum member tenring and I tried his new bumping lens out at the range today under heavy mirage. We both agreed that it was easier to see 22 cal bullet holes at 300 meters without the lens on his 36T Weaver. There seems to be some point where the conditions become so bad that the benefit of the magnification boost is overridden by the slight lose of clarity, or whatever the tech term is, caused by the adding of another piece of glass.

Please don’t take this to mean the lens isn’t any good. IMO they’d be a handy thing to carry for use at medium to long range on days when the conditions are good and probably for all 200 yard and under use.

Sounds like he's got some about ready, next week or two) to fit the NF 12-42x BR scopes... supposed to bump up to 55x or thereabouts. :thumb:

As a side note... he said the price is going up $10,to $100 + S&H) after the first of the month.

I found adjusting the occular lens focus took out any distortion or fuzziness. I have found no matter the scope or lens mirrage is better dealt with with lower powers.

Just wondering if he will make any to fit the Nightforce NXS 12-42. Would certainly purchase one or maybe even two of them if he does. Thanks, Bill

I got a 3X [33% boost] from Gene Davis for newer Leupolds.

The only other outfit I have found that has his good attitude toward customers is the dog-gone-good shooting bag people:

Bill,

Can't say for sure, but it seems like all he's making the lenses for are scopes w/ screw-in caps like Benchrest scopes. The NXS scopes don't have that, so no easy way to make the lenses fit.

Got the 3x from Gene Davis and works fine, need to adjust the ocular piece for x-hair clairity and after that, this is on a Night-Force 8-32 BR. Very nice man and 100% trust worthy.

Just got my 3x booster the other day for my older Leupold and YES it comes with a polymer/rubber adapter to keep the booster on the eyepiece since the threads don't match up. Had only a small break to go out and shoot today using a Leupold 4.5-14 LR. It only increases to about 18X but the glass is OUTSTANDING and so is Gene !!

It may not be enough magnification for shooting F T/R but ... it could in the right hands. What I did find out is that my M700 in a McMillan HTG stock is too light for F T/R. I was also using a Harris bipod and that may have something to do with why I wasn't totally satisfied with the session. Will try the 3x on the other rifle with a 6.5-20 next.

No matter what ... this sure beats dropping $2K for a scope I may or may not like !!
