Scope base for Winchester M70 Target model

A few years back I glommed a 1965 Winchester M70 target model with a Hart barrel in 308. It came with a set of RPA "Trakker" sights and Earle scope mounting blocks. I got busy and kinda left the rifle in the back of the closet.

Anyway, I've given up on trying to use the external adjustable scope mounts and started looking for a scope base for a modern scope. As you can see, this M-70 is the target model with the clip guide in the rear receiver bridge. I've not been able to find a one-piece base for this rifle (because the rear holes are shifted rearward for the clip guide) and wondered if anyone knows if anyone makes a one piece base for this rifle. If not, will standard two-piece bases work?

As best I can determine, the front holes are .86" center-to-center. The rear holes, roughly .43" ctc, and the middle holes, 4.22, ctc.

Any help is much appreciated.

If you want a custom one done, you can try Carl Boetger. Not sure on spelling. He did a couple for me some time back.
Don't have his contact info handy, but if you cannot locate anything on him, I can dig it up for you.

You can also try Al Warner. His picatinney and combo mounts are great and he is nothing if not all about precision machining.

Thanks, guys. A gunsmith on another forum informed me that this particular version of the M70 uses the same mounting screw pattern as the M70 .300 &. 375 H&H Magnum. I'm working that angle, but will keep both Carl and Al in mind if I come up dry.

2 pc bases should fit. I had a M-70T ('72 vintage) that took standard M-70 2 pc bases. I don't remember if the rear base blocked the clip-slot, but it didn't matter 'cause I wasn't shooting the rapidfire stages anymore.

I like the 2 pc bases because they leave the ejection port more open, and use 4 screws.

The pre 64 .375 H&H one piece would probably work. Only two screws front and one in rear. May have old used one i can give you to check. let me know. 375 H&H is my all time favorite medium bore.

I have a set of two piece bases from an M70 short action. If you'd like, I can take measurements of them when I get home and if they work, I will send them over to you, free of charge. I replaced them with a one piece base.

Thanks, guys.

Initially, EGW told me that they could not help me, but later found that they might have a 20 MOA base that would work.

I lucked out with the scope base. EGW told me that they had a Win Model 70 HH base with 20 MOA. They also told me that they receive about 1 call a year for one of those bases.

At any rate, The base fit perfectly and I went ahead and mounted a B&L 6-24 scope with some rings that I had and took it to the range.

After getting it on paper with some cheap .308 ammo, I switched to 168 FGMM at 100 yards

Moved back to 200 yards and switched to 175 gr FGMM

Finally tried some handloads at 300 yards...the Winchester liked 41.7 grs of 4064 best. (I was going to try a three shot group, but threw the third shot out at about 11 o'clock, so I turned it into a 5 shot group). I noticed that the point of impact shifted to the left when I switched to my reloads.
