Scope base for a JC Higgins FN Mauser?

I have JC Higgins Model 50 FN Mauser in 30/06. It is excellent condition and I have yet to shoot it. I bought a set of two-piece Leupold bases (steel) to replace the Weaver bases that were on it as the spacing was too far for intended scope. The Leupold bases will not align with holes on my rifle. I called Leupold and was told they may require welding and redrilling one of the holes. This is an unexpected expense I choose to avoid. With the position of the factory safety I will need to find a one-piece Weaver or Picatinny base and a higher set of rings. I am now struggling to find a listing for such. Anyone run into this and/or have a part number that would fit this rifle? I guess I will keep the Leupold bases as they may be helpful for someone in the future.

If none of the above work for whatever reason, you can always have a new hole drilled and tapped in the correct place. Better than welding up a perfectly good base IMO.

If you go to EGW their site gives you the measurements from hole to hole. Should simplify things.
