Scope Adjustments

Good Evening All,

I recently had a Remington 700 built into 6BR fast twist. Gun shoots great, until I try to go 600 yards. I mounted a Burris 6-24 scope. Knowing that Burris scope does not have the adjustments to go long range. I also installed rings that use inserts, once again Burris. The inserts in the rear mount are -.020 bottom and .020 top. The front has the same combination except it is -.010 & .010. I am still 8 inchs low at 600 yards with no more adjustments. I thought sure as God made green apples that would have given me all the elevation change I needed out to 850 yards. Any help or suggestions? Oh! I will call Burris this Tuesday when they open up. Thanks in Advance.

If I am reading your post right you have the inserts backwards the rear mount should have the insert marked +.020 on the bottom and the -.020 on the top the front should be the opposite.

If you use the +.02 (rear bottom) -.01 Front bottom it will give you a 30 Moa (with correct spacing)Up . That plus some from the scope(velocity/bullet) combo? is more than enough to get you 1000yds+.

Gents,

I did type the rear numbers in wrong. The .02 is on the bottom rear mount. I talked with Brain at Burris today, informs me the scope only has 11 inchs of adjustment above center line. 22 inchs from bottom to top in adjustments. Not one to knock his knowledge, but I sure as heck thought having the scope canted .030 would have done the trick. Not in this case. Most other Burris scopes have 32 inchs of travel. Both the 6X24 and the 8X32 have 1/8 adjustments, which limits its travel. The 1/4 adjustment scopes has the 32 inchs of travel. Thanks for all the help. It is time now to switch scopes from gun to gun

No need to swap scopes. Use the inserts to get your elevation,+.02 rear bottom -.02 top rear,-.02 front bottom +.02 front top, that's a total of 40 MOA total (up)with 6" ring spacing without using ANY of the scopes adjustments. If you want 30 MOA up use the aforementioned rear setup with -.01 front bottom and +.01 front top.

CJ6,

Sorry ole Boy there is not enough room betwwen the scope and the barrell. A thin and I do me thin piece of paper now slides under the objective lens. Was dicussing it with a friend earlier, suspect the velocity is low. Need to toss some of the rounds down range, to double check everything.

A higher base or extra -high rings cures that. EGW $39.95, Weaver $16.95 among others sell the high base or get Burris Extra-High rings 1" about $35 bucks. BTW I have .06 (1/16") clearence on the barrel blocked rifles I have.

+1 on CJ's comment on bases and or rings. If you need that much cant on the scope, then the standard or medium rings need to be replaced with higher rings. Another approach would be to put on a Picatanny-type base with the 20 MOA taper built in, then you could stick with the zero MOA inserts, or add the 5 or 10 MOA inserts as necessary. Note also that as you cant the scope, that the ocular is rising relative to the cheekpiece, which may need to be raised accordingly.
