4700 !!!! Did you mount the gun on a Cessna?I've shot a few out of a 6.5x47 with an 8.5 twist at 600, 800 and 1000 yards, at about 4700' elevation; they shot very well.
I'm thinking 8.5 is on the ragged edge of stability for the 140 range bullets, but it shot the 142 Sierra's pretty well. I' going to try the 120's first and see how they shoot. Thanks!I have only tried them in a 6.5x47L with a 8:1 twist. They shoot extremely well in that set up. I have a couple 8.5 twist 260's that I'm going to try them in. Your 8.5 might be a little slow twist for a 155. I have found that as you increase the twist rate, the torque also increases. I will not get another 8.5 twist 284 barrel, only 9 twist there. I haven't been able to compare the 6.5's on this yet because mine are different cartridges, but I feel the 8.5 twist should be fine for any 130-140 weight bullet.
